Architects Songs Ranked

Architects are a British metalcore band from Brighton, East Sussex, formed in 2004 by twin brothers Dan and Tom Searle. The band now consists of Dan Searle on drums, Sam Carter on vocals, Alex Dean on bass, and Adam Christianson and Josh Middleton on guitars. They have been signed to Epitaph Records since 2013. Soon after the release of their seventh album, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, in 2016, guitarist and principal songwriter Tom Searle died after three years of living with skin cancer. In September 2017, the band released the single “Doomsday”–the last song he was working on before his death–and announced Middleton as their new lead guitarist. The single is featured on Holy Hell, their first album recorded without Tom Searle, which was released in November 2018. Their upcoming ninth studio album, For Those That Wish to Exist, is set for release on 26 February 2021. Here are all of the Architects songs ranked.

15. Broken Cross (Lost Forever // Lost Together, 2014)

“Metalcore is usually a very hit or miss genre for me. Architects managed to hit me. They combine post-hardcore and some quite complex patterns to their very solid (and almost progressive) kind of metalcore.”

14. Gravity (All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, 2016)

“Metalcore fans lost their minds over this record not only for its emotional lyrics from the then passed Tom Searle, lead guitarist and main songwriter of Architects, but for its pummeling sound.”

13. Naysayer (Lost Forever // Lost Together, 2014)

“This was a great find for me. I have since listened to most of the older Architects albums, and they all have their moments, but overall I think this is the best effort to date. They finally found the right balance in my opinion. Can listen to the album start to finish and just enjoy it all. Killer stuff.”

12. Nihilist (All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, 2016)

“So aggressive represents the band perfectly and what they stand for. Great lyrics, great bass, just great! This song Is amazing and so powerful I love this song

11. Memento Mori (All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, 2016)

“Memento Mori”, this song is one of the best that I’ve ever heard, this song gathers all the elements of the album, the lyrics are the best in the album, the changes of rhythm are the best, Memento Mori starts with a peaceful and depressive atmosphere, and ends with a lot of force and the acceptation of Tom’s fate, in my personal opinion this is my favorite song of the band, and I consider it the best of the band, the most personal song they’ve ever made”

10. These Colours Don’t Run (Daybreaker, 2012)

“It’s a difficult choice, but I think this is their best song. Incredible melodic guitar riffs mixed with Sam’s aggressive vocals. Just amazing. Mind-blowing song and lyrics.”

9. Gravedigger (Lost Forever // Lost Together, 2014)

“This song is so amazing oh my god. I love this song! This is the Best song of architects. This song deserved the first place of this top 10. This band is the best metalcore band for me and the album lost forever // lost together is the best album of architects, and my favorite album of all metal albums.”

8. Holy Hell (Holy Hell, 2018)

“This is Tom Searle’s swan song. It definitely deserves to be in the top 5 at least. He was a fantastic songwriter instrumentally and lyrically, and will be greatly missed in the music world.”

7. Downfall (All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, 2016)

“Downfall is another same track with the same Architects style riff but this time with some melodic ringing out chords that I always have a soft spot for.”

6. A Match Made In Heaven (All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, 2016)

“The guitar riff, the soaring chorus, that music video, the impact of this song… This song is simply perfect This is the best song from architects hands down. Deep lyrics. Heavy. Emotional. Pure adrenaline.”

5. Gone with the Wind (All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, 2016)

“This is the best Architects song out there in my opinion. The lyrics, the guitar, the vocals…everything is perfect. The first time I listened to this song I couldn’t get over the breakdown.”

4. Modern Misery (Holy Hell, 2018)

“Architects have always been an incredibly talented, driven and hungry band that has put out so much high quality metal throughout their career, and while I was definitely concerned as to what continuing without Tom would mean for the band, I clearly had nothing to worry about because they haven’t skipped a single beat.”

3. Hereafter (Holy Hell, 2018)

“One of the best songs I have heard in years! U can really feel the emotion in Sam’s voice. The drumming is also intense and driving, it’s clear none of the instrumentalists here care to let up to catch their breath once throughout the entire runtime of the record, and it not only makes for fantastic and punishing music, but the sheer energy and effort that’s put into the playing here is tribute to Tom in itself.”

2. Doomsday (Holy Hell, 2018)

“I love the guitar buildup in the beginning and how they bring about the choruses. Shivers every time I listen to it, truly one of their best songs. I’m so amazed at the work they’ve done on this album and how Tom seems to be intertwined in every song. So special.”

1. Royal Beggars (Holy Hell, 2018)

“This song has so much passion lyrically, and after the death of Tom, you can really hear how it affected the band and how they are going to move forward. Absolutely fantastic. Honestly, I thought Architects is an average band. But, this song is special. in my opinion, this is the best metalcore song over past years!”
