10. Cuts Like a Knife

“Yes, some of BA’s music has matured since “Cuts Like a Knife”, but ya know there is no one else like Bryan Adams, that I still really want to listen to today (or want my kids to listen to,for that matter) in the Secular Rock/Pop world.”

9. Let Him Know

“One of my favorite songs here is “Let Him Know”. Blending a Phil Spector/Springsteen style wall of sound rhythm with that of Stax’s Booker T & The MG’s. It contains a great blend of two strong soul/R&B oriented styles that mix well with the rock guitar riffing.”

8. The Best Was Yet to Come

“In addition to the vocals and guitar/piano of Adams, other contributing musicians/vocalists were: percussionist/electric pianist Jim Vallance on The Best Was Yet to Come; drummer Mickey Curry; organist Tommy Mandel (also synthesizer); guitarist/backing vocalist Keith Scott; bass guitarist Dave Taylor; and background vocals by Lou Gramm of Foreigner and Alfa Anderson.”

7. Take Me Back

“They’re highly melodic, well and easily crafted and are actually full of a lot of simple and genuine heart. “Take Me Back” really stands out thought. It’s slow, funky Rolling Stones/Heartbreakers-like crawl and bluesy riffs support the strong tune it’s given extremely well.”

6. The Only One

“On “The Only One”, the team effort is heard right away – Adams and Scott have some great guitar work while Taylor’s bass, Mandel’s Keyboards, and Curry’s drumming are in fine form. You’ll also hear some of the nice background vocals that really make up this album from Gramm and Scott.”

5. What’s It Gonna Be

“No question Bryan Adams is a man possessed of many talents: musician, activist and photographer all rolled up in one. You can see here how he blends all of that together well with his imagistic, humane lyrics and his heavily crafted yet powerful rock sound. “

4. Don’t Leave Me Lonely

“Adams was also lucky enough to come along at a time before someone had to resort to an “it seemed good at the time” kind of attitude where one had to second guess their musical style and writing for the sake of sounding “edgy”.

3. I’m Ready

“This is an album that truly defines rock and roll and what it was like back in the early 80’s. I love all the songs on it, and have fun listening to it. While there were so many “one hit wonders” and artists that disappeared with the 80’s, Bryan Adams is one rocker that is here to stay.”

2. This Time

“Adams really gave it a strong leg up. The young 50’s style leather/ducktail haircut styled singer/songwriter/guitarist already had his favorite subject in mind. And that was the passion he apparently had for the music. Also he took upon himself the put a lot of the soul oriented,”heart on his sleeve” approach adopted by Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty.”

1. Straight from the Heart

“Straight From The Heart” marks just the sort of song Adams would soon be known for-an open hearted styled piano based ballad sung in Adam’s high, raspy voice. It’s one of the songs people think of when Bryan Adams is mentioned and he’s made a lot very much like it that were popular and covered by a lot of people.”
