Dance Into the Light Songs Ranked
Dance into the Light is the sixth solo studio album by English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins, released on 8 October 1996 in the United States and on 28 October 1996 in the United Kingdom by Face Value Records. It features guest backing vocalists, including Arnold McCuller, and Amy Keys. It was the first album that Collins released as a full-time solo artist, having left Genesis earlier that year. Despite the disappointing sales of the album, Collins’ subsequent U.S. tour in support of the album, titled The Trip into the Light World Tour, was one of the highest-performing tours of the year, regularly selling out arenas across the country. This album also marked the studio debut of the Vine Street Horns, who had replaced the Phenix Horns on the Both Sides of the World Tour. Collins would not chart again with an American Top 40 single until 1999’s “You’ll Be in My Heart”, the main single from Disney’s animated feature, Tarzan. Here are all of Dance Into the Light songs ranked.

10. River So Wide
“River So Wide” is an intense theme song that begins with a somewhat suspenseful intro and develops into a high-energy theme with heavy African drums with heavy rock. It serves as a prelude to the “Tarzan” soundtrack he did just a few years later.”
9. Lorenzo
“Lorenzo” is among my favorite songs on this album as with African flutes as an intro before it develops into an epic theme with a marvelous combination of his trademark drum sounds and African drums.
8. Love Police
“Love Police is a great simple song. It’s a little hard to describe exaclty how it sounds like but it’s a must hear. Wear My Hat is the fastest song on this CD. It’s very tropical sounding with some Jamaican drums and some Big Band horns.”

7. Oughta Know by Now
“Oughta Know by now brings back the Phil that we know from the But Seriously days with the thundering beats and the great guitar playing. It sounds kinda like I Wish It Would Rain Down but not quite as ‘BIG’ sounding.”
6. The Times They Are a-Changin’
“The Times They Are A Changing is a great closer to this CD. Its a very well done cover version of the 1963 version done by Bob Dylan. The beats are phat.”
5. No Matter Who
“No Matter is acoustic song similar to It’s In Your Eyes but better. Not my favorite but good. This is Phil’s most upbeat album since No Jacket Required.”

4. The Same Moon
“Phil’s music may be simpler than his Genesis work, but it is quite layered, and there is a lot going in there. Definitely recommend his remasters to anyone who loves his music.”
3. It’s in Your Eyes
“The multicultural influences on rhythm and melodic structures add to a sense of how both joy and sadness combine in simplicity at the most poignant moments on the album — as they do in life.”
2. Wear My Hat
“Wear My Hat is the fastest song on this CD. It’s very tropical sounding with some Jamaican drums and some Big Band horns. If you want an album that will uplift and inspire you in both its music and its intentions, this is a perfect choice.”
1. Dance Into the Light
“Dance Into The Light is a fun, upbeat, almost tropical song with lots of trumpets. It’s like a backlash at I Cant Dance from several years before. It’s a great song that you should give a listen to.”
