EP REVIEW: Smallpools – ‘Ghost Town Road (east)’
Over these last few years, Nashville’s Smallpools have been one of the more exciting names on the indie-pop circuit. Unashamedly fun and euphoric with everything they do, their recent studio album ‘Cameras & Coastlines & Covers’ brought huge acclaim their way and proved that their style can merge into almost any aesthetic you give it. Now returning for 2024, they deliver their vibrant new EP ‘Ghost Town Road (east)’, a release that cements their legacy of late.
Much like what these last few years have shown us, this new five-track collection is a spritely dose of upbeat anthems, filled with all the same inventive swagger they are known. Featuring the previously unveiled efforts ‘Fake A Happy Face!’, ‘Motorbike (Wild Ones)’, and ‘Night Shift’, ‘Ghost Town Road (east)’ comes firing out of the gates with some of their most infectious offerings to date, all built upon this dazzling production that really hits hard.
Although these last few years have certainly been some of the busiest in their tenure so far, ‘Ghost Town Road (east)’ shows there is still plenty of creative edge within their songwriting. Brimming with such passion and allure at every turn, they return to the fold with one of their most mesmerising releases to date.
