3. Return of the Girl

EVERGLOW - PIRATE Lyrics (English Translation) | Kgasa

“This is Everglow, the best way to describe this mini, is by calling it 100% Everglow. And the reason is that I think each song here is what made Everglow who they are, it’s all of their previous sound in one package. The ballad with great harmonization (Back Together). The strong and powerful song with its catchy lines and bass (PIRATE). The somewhat 80’s disco-inspired track and its groove (Don’t Speak). The experimental and quirky song (Nighty Night). And the like-it-or-not loud noisy track (Company). If I were to use one project to resume the group’s style, it would be this one because once again to me, it has everything that makes Everglow Everglow.”

2. Reminiscence

EVERGLOW - REMINISCENCE (1ST MINI ALBUM)

“A very short, sweet & powerful k-pop EP. It’s good the way it is with length, wouldn’t want it longer as it would feel as a drag, but this is just sweet now. Some nice drops in the style of Trap & Electro House, with some cute vocals. It’s something I’d play in a party.”

“There’s no messing around with this one. It begins with just four snare hits and launches into a driving synthwave bass line, it’s tone is straight up perfect! Vocals echo and swirl around the verses thickening the palette. Frolicking arpeggios dance in the cavenous pre-chorus where Sihyeon fully utilitses the space with awesome rhythmic phrasing – ‘tell me now, tell me now’ (0:27/1:28) – supported with breathy harmonisations. The snare fill throws that bass back in for the chorus as those arpeggios race on and we get what is likely the hook of the year. I hate to do it to you but it’s god damn untouchable! I’m all about those harmonisations, the nasally stressing of title and the final chorus descants. Oh and that bridge thumps too!”
