Fin.K.L Albums Ranked

Fin.K.L is a South Korean girl group formed by DSP Media in 1998 consisting of members Lee Hyori, Ock Joo-hyun, Lee Jin, and Sung Yu-ri. Fin.K.L was one of the most popular K-pop groups of the late 1990s and early 2000s, alongside rival girl group S.E.S. The group cemented their popularity in South Korea with the release the songs “To My Boyfriend” in 1998, “Forever Love” in 1999, and “Now” in 2000. The group released four full-length albums: Blue Rain (1998), White (1999), Now (2000), and Eternity (2002). They won several major awards including New Artist of the Year at the 1998 Golden Disc Awards, the Grand Prize at the 1999 Seoul Music Awards, and Best Female Group at the 2000 Mnet Music Video Festival. Fin.K.L became inactive after releasing the single, “Fine Killing Liberty”, in 2005. However, Fin.K.L reunited on a variety show in July 2019 and released Fin.K.L Best Album, including a new song titled “남아있는 노래처럼 (Just Like The Song That Remains)” on September 22. Here are all of Fin.K.L albums ranked.

6. Memories & Melodies

“K-Pop sensation Fin.K.L. were a quartet of 4 South Korean young ladies who rose to enormous popularity in their home country and released 4 highly regarded albums in their career.”

5. Now

“In 2000, Fin.K.L. wasn’t going to be left behind doing cutesy songs in cutesy getups while their friendly rivals were veering away from fluffy tunes and introducing black leather, PVCs and pantsuits into their stage attire. Good idea on their part too, as in my opinion they upped their game with this album.”

4. 2.5 Album S.P.E.C.I.A.L

“It’s fairly obvious right away as to what separates them from the other major acts at that time, which is the high dosage of punchy soul style vocals mingling with the more traditional cute-idol singing. Ock is the reason, boasting a forceful soprano tone that can be polarizing and even piercing at times, certainly during the 90’s. “

3. White

“The girl group scene of the first wave is quite bubbly and sanitized, as this is some pretty weak shit. Only a few songs have any real bounce such as happy-ass “Oh! Boy” with its jubilant horn sounds and the summer pop of “자존심”. There’s some soft ballads and a whole lot of mid-tempo light-pop, some featuring vaguely new jack swing rhythms, taking up the bulk of the running time.”

2. Vol. 4

“Vol. 4 shows them at the heights of their powers in a very good sounding production. Still it’s let down a bit by missing the musical diversity of their debut. But then the stunning quality of songwriting presented here makes up for that. In general Vol. 4 consits of R&B ballads and smooth mid-tempo songs which combine Pop with R&B.”

1. Blue Rain

“Blue Rain” is, in terms of musical quality and diversity, surely one of the better debut albums in K-Pop. As much as I respect this record and Fin.K.L. in general, I find myself in the odd position never to overcome the sad fact that I just can’t get used to Ock Joo-hyun’s vocals.”
