Foreigners Albums Ranked

Foreigner is a British–American rock band, originally formed in New York City and London in 1976 by veteran English musician and ex–Spooky Tooth member Mick Jones, and fellow Briton and ex-King Crimson member Ian McDonald along with American vocalist Lou Gramm.
Jones came up with the band’s name as he, McDonald, and Dennis Elliott were British, while Gramm, Al Greenwood, and Ed Gagliardi were American. Their biggest hit single, “I Want to Know What Love Is”, topped the United Kingdom and the United States charts among others. Another one of their hit singles, “Waiting for a Girl Like You”, peaked at number two on the US chart for a record-setting 10 weeks. They are one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time with worldwide sales of more than 80 million records,  including 37.5 million records in the US.
Current band members are Kelly Hansen (lead vocals and percussion); Mick Jones (lead and rhythm guitar, keyboard, backing, and lead vocals); Thom Gimbel (rhythm guitar, keyboard, backing vocals, saxophone, and flute); Jeff Pilson (bass and backing vocals); Michael Bluestein (keyboard and backing vocals); Bruce Watson (lead and rhythm guitar, backing vocals); and Chris Frazier (drums and percussion). Here are all Foreigner albums ranked.

8. Records (1982)

“When Foreigner Records came out in 1982,Foreigner had only released for albums.Foreigner,Double Vision,Head Games, and 4,all good albums, but somebody thought they needed a greatest hits album already, with only having 4 albums out. With 10 songs Records represents the Foreigner radio experience very well, the album only contains songs that you should know.Cold As Ice,Feels Like the First Time, and Long, Long Way from Home all come from Foreigner’s 1977 self titled album.Double Vision is from the album of the same name. The Head Games album is represented by Head Games and Dirty White Boy.Then 4 is represented by Waiting for a Girl Like You(Foreigner’s best ballad),Urgent, and Jukebox Hero. Then there is a live version of HOt Blooded from the 1982 tour, which has to be the best version of Hot Blooded I have ever heard, the energy is great. It blows the studio version away! With 10 songs and running around 40 minutes,it’s just like any other album to come out in the 70’s or 80’s.Your average album was usually 30-40 minutes, less is more.”

7. Mr. Moonlight (1994)

“Wow. Whatever happened to music like this anyway? I can’t find anything new that even comes close. Why is it when I want some real music I have to listen to bands that I listened to as a teen? I admit some of the pop songs they have out there today are catchy, but once you’ve heard the song more than a coupla times, it’s BORING. You don’t feel the music like you feel Foreigner’s music and is’nt that the whole point of music? “Until The End Of Time” has to be one of the best songs ever recorded. Now that’s a ballad!! It transports me to a different place and time and I can’t say enough about it. Music is supposed to be an escape. You can listen to this CD or any of Foreigner’s CDs and not wonder why you spent money on it in the first place. Every song is good, not earth shattering like the above mentioned song, but good. This album is a classic.”

6. Inside Information (1987)

“Yes, thats right. “Inside Information” is Foreigner’s BEST album out of their entire catalogue. Sure, there’s no MONSTER hits; instead the album trades in epic songs for a SOLID, I repeat, SOLID outing from start to finish. Looking back at Foreigner’s earlier efforts ( Self-title debut, Double-Vision, Head games, and 4), I cant help but notice that ALL those albums are ULTIMATELY hit or miss. You hear 3-4 “Instant Classics”, followed by 6-7 songs that REALLY miss the mark. If you dont believe me, go listen. “Agent Provocateur” fairs better, and “Inside Information” succeeds on all levels as being an all around “pleasurable” listening experience. First Listen, I was hooked; GREAT songs “Hearts Turn to Stone”, “Cant Wait”, “Say You Will”, “Inside Information”,
“Face To Face” “Out of the Blue””

5. Agent Provocateur (1984)

“Forgotten Classic! This album turns it up with some great rockers like Tooth and Nail, Reaction to Action and Stranger in my own house. I have this LP gathering dust somewhere and I saw Amazon had a lot of Foreigners Albums on sale so I downloaded it. Great album! You get married, you have kids and maybe 25 years go by and all of your old music goes missing.”

4. Head Games (1979)

“Foreigner is one of those seventies bands that I never outgrew, and they’re still on my playlist. Call me old, but call me an old rocker. MFSL has bewildered me in the past. The Foreigner albums on MFSL are packaged differently. The Foreigner debut album on MFSL SACD Hybrid came with a mild track listing insert with lyrics, and it was four mild pages. Album art was recreated well, but…I like holding something and reading when I listen to the music, so inserts are important to me. Double Vision came pretty much stock and didn’t have any lyric inserts at all. Pretty bland and vanilla, but the music was great. Now comes Head Games, my wife’s favorite Foreigner album. And MFSL finally gets it right. A twelve page booklet filled with album art and lyrics made my day. There’s no arguing that MFSL has remastered these albums and they’re easily the best versions I’ve found. I don’t do a lot of digital music…downloading the songs only still feels like I’m being shortchanged. “

3. Double Vision (1978)

“This long awaited reunion concert film is simply Magnificent. In fact, this is by far the best concert film Foreigner has ever released in it’s 40 year history. The fact that Foreinger was able to assemble the bands current lineup with original lineup together on one stage, is a phenominal achievement in it’s own right. The production quality both visually and sonically are 5 Stars.. Lou Gramm and the original members, Mick Jones, Al Greenwood, Ian McDonald, Dennis Elliot, and Rick Wills all sound fantastic and kick off their set with with “Feels Like The First Time” , which is performed perfectly. We finally get to see the Starrider Spacecraft in CGI Animation come to life, along with some very cool visual special effects. Kelly Hanson is at the top of his game, performing a blistering set of hits that includes “Head Knocker”, which features Kelly riding his Harley through the Malibu Mountains at sundown, that is artistically and beautifully edited into the performance.”

2. Foreigner (1977)

“The cover is so prophetic, just arrived off the success train. My favorite cut; Cold As Ice still sends chills down my spine.Another favorite; The Damage is Done ends with one of Mick Jones’ best solo,I feel. I like the uncut “Feels Like The First Time” with keyboard intro and Lou kills it with the vocal climax.Best rock singer of his day.The dynasty had just begun here. The only songs I didnt care for was “Headknocker” and “Fool For You Anyway”.,considering most albums only have 3 to 4 cuts worthwhile speaks greatly for this release.Their follow up ;”Double Vision” was a rare superior sequel but this set up that success superbly. They almost tied the Beatles debut if “Long,Long Way/Home” had cracked the Top 10.They did’nt feel too bad I think, they got nominated for Best New Artist at Grammy’s.Foreigner stepped into the rock and roll arena as fullblown stars right out of the starting gate.”

1.4 (1981)

“The album means a lot to me since it was the soundtrack of those honeymoon days–and nights– in Alaska, so I’m a bit overly nostalgic about the soundtrack. Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs has hit this one out of the park. As far as remastering goes, it sounds great to these old ears, better than it’s ever sounded. I’ll let someone else talk about the diagrams and peaks and valleys, I’m too right-brained to go into that detail.”
