Fuzzysurf come out swinging on defiant new anthem ‘Nobody’s Fool’

Fuzzysurf have had enough of playing games on ‘Nobody’s Fool’, a swaggering, guitar-heavy blast from their forthcoming album Black Licorice.

Powered by a muscular central riff, driving rhythm section and a chorus practically engineered to be shouted back, the track captures the moment manipulation finally loses its grip. Frustration rapidly gives way to confidence as the repeated declaration of “I’m nobody’s fool” grows increasingly emphatic, culminating in an explosive finish.

It’s a perfect introduction to the Milwaukee band’s more direct new era. Following the sprawling ambition of 2025 double album Chameleons, Black Licorice pushes Fuzzysurf towards heavier guitars, raw performances, synth counter-melodies and immediate rock hooks, landing somewhere between Weezer, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand and the heavier punch of Queens of the Stone Age.

The album itself has taken an unusual journey, beginning with sessions in 2022 before being shelved and eventually rebuilt by Fuzzysurf’s current lineup.
