6. The Bright Lights EPĀ

ā€œBlues rock at its best. Gary Clark Jr. can play the guitar like a beast. He shines where some many other guitar players of our time fail. His hooks are memorable and poppy enough to get stuck in someoneā€™s head but he never forfeitā€™s his talent while still being completely relevant. This EP has 4 great tunes! Its got versatility. This guy is getting it right where others are trying. I heard him on Palladia once and immediately fell in love with his sound..ā€

5. Gary Clark Jr.Ā

ā€œI love this guyā€™s work. Gary Clark Jrā€™s style reminds me of a classic old bluesman w/ a fresh modern edge and some Marvin Gaye thrown in. He can rock out and be soulful, a unique diversity within his art. Along with the Black Keys Mr Clark is best Iā€™ve heard that has made it this century.ā€

4. This LandĀ

ā€œGary Clark Jr.ā€™s This Land can best be summed up as an incredible album with some incredible messages. Inspired by personal accounts of anti-Black racism, the 2016 presidential election, the 2017 Charlottesville rally, and the rise of right-wing populism, This Land doesnā€™t hold any punches. The album is a heavily guitar-driven affair that draws music influence from rock, reggae, soul, and hip-hop. The album is a crisp and satisfying listen that offers some great political insights, fantastic musicianship, and thoughtful lyrics. It speaks heavily to the times weā€™re living in while honouring both musicians and activists who came before.ā€

3. LiveĀ

ā€œUndoubtedly Guy Clark is a very talented musician and this CD exposes his skills as a good vocalist, guitarist, and song writer. I like this live CD much more than his studio releases; that may be because I value more the guitar displays than vocals and am bent more towards live renditions of songs than studio. Some bands (like Allman Brothers, Govā€™t Mule, Widespread Panic, Jethro Tull, to name a few) just sound better live than in studio releases where they have the freedom to more fully express themselves and this apparently applies to Gary Clark Jr.ā€

2. The Story Of Sonny Boy SlimĀ

ā€œThis man is such a star. Superb songs, effortless performer playing magical guitar and just looks so damned cool. Saw him performing at Somerset House earlier this year, think even Mr Hendrix would have been impressed. This album has many facets, almost Prince-like at times. Certainly not a regurgitation of previous work, new avenues and boundaries pushed and explored. Hope this man will be around for a long time to come.ā€

1. Blak And BluĀ

ā€œA stellar blend of Blues, Rock, Soul, and R&B. Gary Clark Jr. is certainly a talent to watch, and Iā€™m looking forward to any of his future releases, especially if theyā€™re of this caliber. This man is one of the few working today with actual Soul in his music. Instead of embarrassing the greats who came before them, heā€™s living up to them.ā€
