Goodbye Songs Ranked
Goodbye (also called Goodbye Cream) is the fourth and final studio album by Cream, with three tracks recorded live, and three recorded in the studio. It was released in Europe by Polydor Records and by Atco Records in the United States, debuting in Billboard on 15 February 1969. It reached number one in the United Kingdom and number two in the US. A single, “Badge”, was subsequently released from the album a month later. The album was released after Cream disbanded in November 1968. Just before Cream’s third album, Wheels of Fire, was to be released, the group’s manager Robert Stigwood announced that the group were going to disband after a farewell tour and a final concert at the Royal Albert Hall in November.[5] Just before the start of their farewell tour in October 1968, Cream recorded three songs at IBC Studios in London with producer Felix Pappalardi and engineer Damon Lyon-Shaw. The songs “Badge” and “Doing That Scrapyard Thing” featured Eric Clapton using a Leslie speaker, while all three recordings featured keyboard instruments played by either Jack Bruce or Felix Pappalardi. The group started their farewell tour on 4 October 1968 in Oakland, California and 15 days later on 19 October the group performed at The Forum in Los Angeles where the three live recordings on Goodbye were recorded with Felix Pappalardi and engineers Adrian Barber and Bill Halverson. Here are all of Goodbye songs ranked.

6. Politician
“Has an extremely bassy sound, like a tuba or something…maybe it is a keyboard though? Surprised if a bass guitar could get that low. Has a circus type riff to it. Not sure, but I think at one time the word “follyticks” is used instead of “politics”
5. I’m So Glad
“Mostly an instrumental jam, running to 9:13. Lyrics bookend the jam. Drumming is interesting at times. Drums are heard mostly on the left hand channel and the bass guitar is on the right hand side. Levels for these are fine, but sort of muffled at times. The outro sounds better…not sure, but I think that this outro may have been ‘pasted’ in…that stuff which is obviously live just sounds better. It’s all meant to be live though.”

4. Sitting on Top of the World
“Sitting on top of the world is a blues song with an extremely bassy sound to it too, like a tuba. A jam session type of song.”
3. What a Bringdown
“Features the piano. Catchy riff…sort of reminds me of the tv theme “Mission: Impossible”, I think…or some such tv show theme (wouldn’t think I a have the theme to “Peter Gunn” in mind). More nonsense lyrics. Bassy, with nice chime percussion.”

2. Doing that Scrapyard Thing
“Features the piano, organ, and a ice guitar lick. Nonsense lyrics are catchy at times, and the singing also sounds quirky at times too. Maybe you could describe this song as sort of being in Supertramp territory. It sorta has a carnivale vibe to it.”
1. Badge
“Perhaps it is little wonder that I liked this song the best…it is co-credited to George Harrison, who was actually part of a supergroup. It’s a pleasant, easy listening song with some nice piano playing. Clapton delivers up a good, bluesy solo. A good guitar bit in this song which reminds me of the intro to Boston’s all time classic song “More than a feeling”. Bassy. Liked this song better on second listen.”
