Gorillaz Songs Ranked

Gorillaz is a British virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The band primarily consists of four animated members: Stuart “2-D” Pot, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs. Their fictional universe is presented in music videos, interviews, and short cartoons. In reality, Albarn is the only permanent musical contributor, and he often collaborates with other musicians. Remi Kabaka Jr. became a producer for the band in 2016 after several years providing the voice of Russel Hobbs and was listed as an official member alongside Albarn and Hewlett in the 2019 Gorillaz documentary Gorillaz: Reject False Icons.
With Gorillaz, Albarn departed from the distinct Britpop of his band Blur through hip hop, electronic music, and world music through an “eccentrically postmodern” approach. The band’s 2001 debut album Gorillaz went triple platinum in the UK and double platinum in Europe and earned the group an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Successful Virtual Band. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize, but the nomination was withdrawn at the band’s request. Their second studio album, Demon Days (2005), went 6 times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US.
The third album, Plastic Beach, was released on March 3, 2010. Their fourth, The Fall, was released on April 18, 2011. The fifth, Humanz, was released after a 6-year hiatus on April 28, 2017. Their sixth, The Now Now, was released on June 29, 2018. Gorillaz is currently working on a project named Song Machine which releases new songs every month.
Gorillaz has won a Grammy Award, two MTV Video Music Awards, an NME Award, and three MTV Europe Music Awards. They have also been nominated for 10 Brit Awards and won Best British Group at the 2018 Brit Awards. By 2010, Gorillaz had sold over 20 million records worldwide. 20. Last Living Souls (Demon Days, 2005)

“Beat so catchy that Drake sampled the beginning in Hotline Bling. It’s a relaxing song that has a great middle section. All around the best!”

19. Revolving Doors (Revolving Doors, 2011)

“This song is worth way more than (atm)25! I mean, seriously, 15 at least! It has such a dark and gloomy feeling with awesome background vocals. What’s not to like?”

18. November Has Come (Demon Days, 2005)

“Is to the gorillaz as mr brownstone is to Guns N’ Roses. An awesome underrated song that should have been a hit but wasn’t.”

17. Plastic Beach (Plastic Beach, 2010)

“There is something about this song that makes me want to cry, laugh and jump at the same time.. It takes control of your body and your mind.”

16. Andromeda (Humanz, 2017)

“Andromeda is just one of those songs that give off good vibes. Unlike other songs, I like the way how this song is more chill.”

15. 5/4 (Gorillaz, 2001)

“Such a sick song. Definitely my favorite Gorillaz song out there and I’ve been listening to them since they first were. Original song with a groovy and catchy guitar part. This song really shows who the Gorillaz really are.”

14. O Green World (Demon Days, 2005)

“I can listen to this when I’m mad or angry, happy, feel like dancing, cooking or when I’m walking down the street and need to feel cool. When the world ends, this is the song that need to be put on. I will prepare for this day and make sure this will happen. This song is also good for sex.Best gorillaz song ever.”

13. Every Planet We Reach is Dead (Demon Days, 2005)

“This song is so complex, this strictly as an instrumental flows perfect. The vocals give it more meaning though, “When you go back, All the second selfless days, You’re in love with him, I want to see you again, I love you, what are we going to do? ” Talking about losing someone or something to someone else, there are many other aspects to this song’s lyrics as well, all relating to losing and finding your soul along the way of life.”

12. Stylo (Plastic Beach, 2010)

“I love, I repeat, LOVE this song. Awesome baseline, cool beat, absolutely visually outstanding video that actually looks better than most real life + CGI films. Definitely one of my favourite songs of all time.”

11. Kids with Guns (Demon Days, 2005)

“The electronic progression in this song is amazing. It starts out simple and builds into a fantastic fusion of vocals and sound. I love most all of Gorillaz’ songs, but I can’t stop coming back to this one in particular. It’s truly genius, not to mention the underlying meaning behind the lyrics that we’re destroying the world for future generations. Albarn has created such an undeniably awesome track that it’s easy to forget the ominous message.”

10. 19-2000 (Gorillaz, 2001)

“19-2000 has a great hip-hop vibe too it. It is one of many great songs by the Gorillaz. It is not in comparison to Clint Eastwood or Feel Good Inc. but is still one of the classic’s. This song should be in the Top 10. This song is so creative and has such a great feel good vibe too it. Anyone who likes GorIllaz’s will like this song.”

9. Rhinestone Eyes (Plastic Beach, 2010)

“This song brings too many emotions out for me. First its just plain awesome sounding with the build up from Low guitars to Loud Keyboards and then a mix of both very angelic backing vocals. Second its very sad the way EMI did not fund the video and we were left with only a storyboard proposal of what might have been. The video represented Noodles Return and Murdocs redemption for being so mean to 2D. Third it all seems like the whole storyline was cut short for Plastic Beach and the continuing Gorillaz plot line.”

8. El Manana (Demon Days, 2005)

“This song is very underrated. It’s at least #3. The vocals are shrill, raspy, and soulful to the core, and the production excellent. In my opinion the Gorillaz are at their best when melancholy. And that music video. Greatest one in their resume.”

7. Empire Ants (Plastic Beach, 2010)

“Probably my favorite Gorillaz song, to be honest. The first part sounds like a lullaby, and the second part is catchy as all hell. Both halves sound like the ocean; the first is peaceful, calming, and tranquil, while the second sounds like how it feels to watch waves crashing into each other. The lyrics are also amazing.”

6. Tomorrow Comes Today (Gorillaz, 2001)

“This is possibly one of the most underrated songs to ever be released by any artist. Though the meaning of the lyrics are a debatable mystery, with suggestions ranging from suicide to joy, this song is a slow, dub-influence piece of art with a strong sense of deprive, without having an empty sounding sound. The bass is heavy, the lyrics are good, the instrumental is brilliant and on top of that this is their first single.”

5. Dare (Demon Days, 2005)

“My favourite song of 2005 and the reason I got hooked on gorillaz. Couldn’t get enough of it when it came out. Brings back fond memories. Love the backing vocals by Rosie Wilson, she never got the credit she deserved from this. A voice that’s sassy and slightly ethereal and haunting. Just ace”

4. Dirty Harry (Demon Days, 2005)

“I don’t know why, but this song makes me so happy. When ever I listen to it, I fight the urge to dance… I think this song should at least be ranked number 3 or 2. I don’t know how the Gorillaz do it, but every song they make is overly epic!”

3. On Melancholy Hill (Plastic Beach, 2010)

“The entire theme and feel of the song is complete and utter beauty. All of the songs that Gorillaz have ever created I love with all of my heart, but I love this song most of all. On Melancholy Hill should win the Gorillaz a grammy for every second of music it has. – Long live the Gorillaz!”

2. Clint Eastwood (Gorillaz, 2001)

“I kind of feel guilty about this, but Trolls was the movie that formally introduced me to Gorillaz. This was the first song I heard by them (well, not counting Feel Good Inc on the radio because I never got to listen to all of it, my parents kept changing stations), and since then I’ve loved them.

1. Feel Good Inc. (Demon Days, 2005)

“The meaning behind the lyrics really strikes me. The Song asks: When are we truly Happy? Do we leave too little room for actual happiness? The Music video for the Song is also one of My favorites. The Tower in the video is a place of fake happiness or “cheap thrills” which represents our artificial happiness which we get from, for example, the media, drugs. And the Island represents the place of Real happiness and intellectual Freedom, Where it is possible to feel good.”
