Hello I Must Be Going Songs Ranked
Hello, I Must Be Going! is the second solo studio album by English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins. It was released on 5 November 1982 on Virgin Records in the United Kingdom and on Atlantic Records in North America, and named after the Marx Brothers’ song of the same name. After his band Genesis took a break in activity in late 1981, Collins started work on a follow-up to his first solo album Face Value (1981). Hello, I Must Be Going! received a more reserved commercial reaction than Face Value, but it nonetheless reached No. 2 in the United Kingdom and No. 8 in the United States. In total, Collins released eight singles from the album, with various tracks released as singles in different countries. The most successful was the first US and second UK single, a cover of “You Can’t Hurry Love” by The Supremes, which went to No. 1 in the United Kingdom and No. 10 in the United States. Collins supported the album with his 1982–1983 tour, his first as a solo artist. The album earned Collins a Brit Award nomination for British Male Artist in 1983, and “I Don’t Care Anymore” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male. 10. The West Side
“There are really three horn based songs. One is a near instrumental called “The West Side”. Not really much in the way of vocals, but Phil does echo some “yeeaah” – sort of in the flavor of “Hand in Hand”.”
9. It Don’t Matter to Me
“The fourth & final song about Phil’s divorce. It’s funny how this album includes four songs about his divorce where two of them are funfilled and cheery, whilst the other two being very bitter and angry.”
8. Do You Know, Do You Care?
“This is the third song about his divorce to his ex-wife. Whoa, not like “I Cannot Believe It’s True”. I mean, the song, “I Cannot Believe It’s True”, was the second song on this album about his divorce, but he made that one sound nice and cheery, while this song, just like “I Don’t Care Anymore”, only a step below, was made very bitter.”

7. Why Can’t It Wait ‘Til Morning
“The gentle orchestrated ballad “Why Can’t It Wait ‘Til Morning” is a tad tedious, but it’s only about 3 minutes long and is a decent album-closer.”
6. Thru These Walls
“This is another one of Phil’s beautiful ballads. He always had great uptempo songs, but he always had a way with recording great ballads like this, whether the are smooth relaxing ballads like this or the usual power ballads, like “I Wish It Would Rain Down”.
5. Don’t Let Him Steal Your Heart Away
“There is something about this song that sort of sounds a little bit (and I mean a little bit by maybe 3% to 5% of the song) like “Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)”. I know that sounds a little awkward, since that song was not recorded until three years after this album was released, but this song sounds like a little prelude.”

4. You Can’t Hurry Love
“That’s right; “You Can’t Hurry Love”. It has to come on it’s own. This song, you know, was originally recorded by the infamous Diana Ross & The Surpremes, only Phil Collins made this song worth listening to, while The Surpremes didn’t. The Surpremes only had three hits that I had liked and they are: “Stop! In The Name Of Love”, “Baby Love”, & “Where Did Our Love Go”.”
3. Like China
“Like China” is another song that is terrific. This has a nice mix of keyboards and drums (both played by Phil thanks to the magic of mixing). This could either be a song as he reflects on how he met his first wife (Andrea) or his second wife (Jill). “
2. I Cannot Believe It’s True
“Well, when you have gone through a divorce from your wife or husband, did you even expect to believe that was going to happen? I didn’t think so. I know for a fact that if I had married and had gone through with a divorce, I sure as hell wouldn’t have believed it myself. What I like is that instead of making the song sound bitter, he made it a fun and uptemp tune.”
1. I Don’t Care Anymore
“The titles of the songs really tell a lot of the story of Phil’s feelings about the breakup. “I Don’t Care Anymore” is one of those songs with the dark psychedelic element” and Phil’s haunting drums. Lines such as “Get out of my way, let me by, I got better things to do with my time” tell the story.”
