“Some albums you love the first time you hear them and other’s have to grow on you over repeated listenings. This was one of the former. The first time I heard it,it became my favorite album for a couple of months.”

11. Another Try

“Every song is a gem. Both of the hits are solid and there is simply no filler to be found.”Old Man Took” and “Another Try” are my personal favorites, but, every song is worth a listen.Every person who likes America should own this CD.”

10. Glad to See You

“If you like America, Cat Stevens, CSN, Neil Young, and you want to experience a classic album, America’s Holiday is a truly warm-hearted, calming, relaxing collection of songs that take on the sentimental value of looking at photographs of loved ones that you’ll never see again. Like a good glass of wine.”

9. Hollywood

“All is soft, smooth, slick and some would reproach that it’s a too glossy stuff. I don’t mind. I think we can have sometimes that kind of guilty pleasures by listening that kind of “adult contemporary” music genre. Most of the melodies are easy memorable.”

8. You

“George Martin takes the helm and produces a real doozy. Not that they couldn’t have done it without him but the production speaks for itself. The songs are definitely the softest, most radio friendly stuff they’ve done to date but they’re fully immersed into this sound now and dang it if they didn’t do it better than almost anyone else around this time period.”

7. What Does It Matter

“When Beatle’s producer George Martin returned to the studios he’d recorded many of the classic Beatle’s albums in, it was this group, America, he chose to work with. The reason why was immediately evident in the resulting album – their superb songs and melodies, his great recording and production values.”

6. In the Country

“This is the perfect blending of America with george Martin and the result is a very fine album that has aged well. The lush string orchestration will remind many folks form my era (the 1960’s) of the Beatles.”

5. Old Man Took

“Old Man Took” is another amazing song with symphonic background. Here that kind of orchestration sounds good; not too much bombastic in spite of the easy accessibility of that music.”

4. Baby It’s Up to You

“The songs are great, with beautiful and sunny melodies all over the place. I think this is their best album up to this point, even surpassing the debut. It appeals to all my sensibilities from top to bottom, making it a very enjoyable outing.”

3. Mad Dog

“America didn’t change their sound appreciably after beginning work with George Martin, although naturally they became more polished. Holiday, by no means any more commercial than its three decidedly commercial predecessors, is just an improvement on the usual formula.”

2. Lonely People

“”Lonely People” is one of my favourite songs here. This piece is quite easy to play on acoustic guitar for beginners. Here like in several other tracks, the background vocals are excellent and it recalls once again the The Beatles, The Hollies and other fine late 60s bands using them often.”

1. Tin Man

“Martin’s orchestration is all over this one too, giving a baroque feel to the proceedings which had been pretty foreign up to this point. In fact, the sound change is so severe in places that you’d never be able to guess this was the same band who wrote “Horse With No Name” unless you already knew.”
