Hoobastank Albums Ranked

Hoobastank (sometimes stylized as h∞bastank, and originally known as Hoobustank) is an American rock band formed in 1994 in Agoura Hills, California, by lead vocalist Doug Robb, guitarist Dan Estrin, drummer Chris Hesse, and original bassist Markku Lappalainen. They were signed to Island Records from 2001 to 2012 and have released six albums and one extended play to date. Their most recent album, Push Pull, was released on May 25, 2018. They have sold 10 million albums worldwide. The band is best known for their biggest hit single, “The Reason”. Hoobastank has been categorized under genres such as post-grunge, alternative rock, hard rock, and nu metal, On their early independent releases, the band used a funk metal and ska punk sound and had a saxophonist in the band. On their major-label, self-titled, debut album, the band’s sound changed; they removed their saxophonist and became a four-piece rock band, using an alternative rock sound. The band’s sound matured in their second album, The Reason, and became more melodic. Hoobastank cite Mike Patton as an influence. Here are all of Hoobastank albums ranked.

7. Icon

“No band can make me feel as nostalgic as Hoobastank can. This is a gathering of some of the best songs and acouple that are film and game soundtrack songs ex. ‘Connected’ (Halo 2 soundtrack) Definitely worth having if you’re a fan”

6. Fight Or Flight

“I think the album is a little darker mood-wise (as dark as a band like Hoobastank can be) than earlier albums and Hooba sounds more mature musically and lyrically. It’s got the rock of their fourth (mainstream) album “For(n)ever” and the angst of parts of the third and second albums “Every Man for Himself” and “The Reason.” The drumming, while never complex or adventurous is still tasteful, simple and often grooving – modus operandi for Chris Hesse (I can tell he’s capable of more, but chooses to play less, and I respect that).”

5. They Sure Don’t Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To

“The goofy album title/cover is perfect for the music. This self-produced debut (glorified full-length demo?) is most notable for the saxophone playing which is absent from their later albums. Although this may sound odd, I think it actually works well in most of the material! The sax solo in “Our Song” is a particularly great moment, while “The Dance That Broke My Jaw” showcases how the sax can work seamlessly in a more aggressive song.”

4. For(N)ever

“I’ve been a fan of Hoobastank since “The Reason” and no this isn’t that same type of album. But that is more than fine with me as the single mentioned above “So Close” gets air and video play. The guys continue to grind it out with touring and everything else. I just hope i’m able to check them out live at some point. I know it would be a great event. But for now “For(N)Ever” will do for me and that is more than enough. Solid effort from the guys and you can feel the energy back this time around.”

3. Hoobastank

“Back in the 00’s, one of the bands that got me into music was Incubus, and anything sounding remotely like them was a good thing. This very much reminds me of Make Yourself-era Incubus. The production can sound slightly rough, but the singing is great, the songs are extremely catchy, and a lot of songs have a certain bouncy rhythm to them. This is definitely a Rock classic to me.”

2. Every Man For Himself

“This will probably one of the most unique albums of 2006. It shows a whole new side of Hoobastank. There’s something for everyone-whether it’s heavy rock, sexually provocative, or the 7 minute finale track, with an accordion, chimes, and so many other strange things. It’s weird, but it all works, and it works well. Buy this album, no matter what kind of rock fan you are.”

1. The Reason

“I don’t really know why I liked this album so much. I just did. Even after you hear it the first few times, you still know it won’t be too long before you listen again…even if you’ve heard “The Reason” a thousand times. Hoobastank is one of those bands where it’s hard to just listen to one or two songs. You want to hear the whole album, which won’t take very long because, once again, they kept the songs short and sweet for the most part. They slow it down on a few tracks, but there is still that punk/pop rock style that keeps you hooked.”
