Jack Hody Johnson is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor, record producer, documentary filmmaker and former professional surfer. Johnson is known primarily for his work in the soft rock and acoustic genres. In 2001, he achieved commercial success after the release of his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales. Johnson has reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart with his albums Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George in 2006, Sleep Through the Static in 2008, To the Sea in 2010 and From Here to Now to You in 2013. 8. To the Sea (2010)
“This is one of those albums you need to listen to 4 or 5 times to appreciate. Go on a road trip and stay quiet, listening to the album in its entirety. It has subtle sounds that really make this album stand apart from his others. You can tell he was trying new things. It took some time to really love, but I think I’m there now.

“So far nothing has surpassed In Between Dreams and On & On in my opinion, but those two were magnificent so comparing others may be unfair. This is a quality addition to the work Jack Johnson has shared with us all over the years. So for those of you like me, it is definitely worth buying.”

“I’ve always said that Jack Johnson is music that you can listen to and ignore at the same time – perfect for hangovers. If you’re on the fence about buying this album – you should stop monkeying around and buy it already. The best thing is that it’s not annoying to listen to and is soft and enjoyable for adults to ostensibly to as well.”

“I have been a huge fan of his from the beginning with Brushfire Fairytales being one of my favorite cds of all time. I do not agree that this CD is necessarily “darker;” I just think that Jack Johnson might be in a different place in his life than when he wrote some of his previous albums. The words seem to be more powerful and purposeful than some of his prior songs. This CD, like his others, makes me very much want to kick back on the couch, prop my feet up and enjoy a large glass of wine or a nice, tasty beer while mellowing out to some of my favorite beats.”

Unlike some artists that seem to feel the need to reinvent their style or sound, Jack keeps it consistent and consistently good. The lyrics are catchy and resonate. The tunes and guitar playing sticks in your head. I can’t get Shot Reverse Shot out of my head right now.”

Johnson’s strength is in his lyrical depth and picture-painting words combined with the soulful folk-rock blues-injected feel. The acoustic guitar work is effortless. Johnson has the ability to deliver his tongue-tying lyrics with a grace and ease that is uncanny.”

“A friend of mine complained that this album sounded too much like his first two efforts. I say why change? I’m the biggest AC/DC fan on the planet (and I like Jack?) and they haven’t changed their style or sound in thirty years. What has it gotten them? A trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the utmost respect from rock legends around the world. Jack will be there, someday, too. I knew from the cathcy first song that this would be a winner, and I was right. Sticking to your guns and playing what you feel is the key to success. The only sad thing for me is the entire 11 song album is only 41 minutes.”
