James E. Gray bends reality on haunting new single ‘Simulation’
Hull songwriter, artist and producer James E. Gray dives into questions of existence, mortality and reality itself on atmospheric new single ‘Simulation’.
Blending Britrock with spooky alternative textures and expansive space-rock influences, the track has been more than a decade in the making. Its earliest demo dates back to 2015, when it carried the title ‘Simulation Hypothesis’, inspired by philosopher Nick Bostrom’s influential work exploring the possibility that reality could be a computer simulation.
From there, ‘Simulation’ gradually evolved through sessions at Chestnut Recording Studio in London and a succession of home studios, eventually emerging as an ambitious exploration of life, death and the uncertain nature of the world around us.
Dark, ambitious and intriguingly strange, ‘Simulation’ turns ten years of development into a compelling introduction to his distinctive musical universe.
