6. Joy: A Holiday Collection (1999)

“The first seven tracks are all extremely well known and all performed in a fairly conventional manner. What makes them refreshing is the quality of Jewel’s singing and the simplicity of the backing. These tracks cannot be faulted in any way and if the rest of the album had been of the same standard, I would have been very happy. However, that’s when things get interesting – and even better. The next track, Rudolph the red-nose reindeer, is given a completely different treatment, mostly just Jewel and her mother, hardly any backing, and at a very fast tempo. You have to hear it to believe it. I wouldn’t want everybody to do the song this way, but as a contrast to all the other covers, it’s stunning.”

5. Picking Up The Pieces (2015)

“This album is so raw and honest. So many songs unleash emotions in you that you didn’t know were there! The version of Shape of You is slower than its original release in 2010, but after listening to it a few times, I fell in love with it. My Father’s Daughter, Carnivore, and His Pleasure is My Pain are so powerful and yet so gentle. The chorus of His Pleasure is My Pain is really an extension of I’m Sensitive from her first album, Pieces of You.”

4. Goodbye Alice In Wonderland (2006)

“The album offers a wonderful mix of commercial pop-rock tracks, acoustic and folk, with a fair amount of country. It opens with the mid-tempo Again and Again, released as a single I believe. Long Slow Slide follows, a folk ballad with the dark themes of loss and despair.”

3. This Way (2001)

“This Way has the best of her first two albums and more. She extends past her folk stereotype and extends into Rock & Roll (Love Me Just Leave Me Alone). Her thoughtfulness is still shown in songs like “Run Out of Road” and “Jesus Loves You.” And you see the playful side of Jewel in “Do You Want to Play” and “Serve the Ego.” You get a taste of what it feels like to see her live with this album, although “Sometimes It Be That Way” is much better faster.”

2. Spirit (1998)

“‘Spirit’ is just amazing. This is a cd that you can listen to the entire way through without skipping one song. It is beautiful poetry that is injected with an angelic voice. Jewel’s songwriting shines through on every song on this album. Full of songs of a love she wishes to have, to keeping positive and keeping faith, to trying to be the best person you can be, this album will make you feel full of emotion. Her guitar playing is something else, I never knew a guitar could sound like she makes it sound.”

1. Pieces Of You (1995)

“`Pieces of You’ is Jewel’s best album, honestly. It is untouched and real, an album that is entirely her own. She has compiled music that means something to her and in the end that is what matters to the listener. If the artist feels connected to their music that will transcend through the stereo and into the ears and minds of their audience and thus it will mean something to us.”
