5. ‘Tell It Again’: Songs of Sense and Nonsense

“This album was an impulse purchase solely based on my newfound infatuation of the music of Moondog. The instrumentation by his trusty trimba with a haunting flute over it adds a different quality to this album that I haven’t heard before. Due to a generation gap, I was only previously familiar with Julie Andrews and not Martyn Green, but both sing wonderfully on this album.”

4. Broadway’s Fair Julie

“It is always an enjoyable experience when listening to Julie’s singing. This album may not have tracks that everybody well know, it is still pretty good !”

3. Christmas With Julie Andrews

“The songs with Julie Andrews’ vocals naturally have more personality. That can be problematic on such a frivolous number as “Jingle Bells” – it’s like hearing an opera star tackle “I’m a Little Teapot”. That said, her performances of the Andre Previn arrangements are never less than enjoyable. “Sunny Bank” is a rather busy and fussy version of a carol I was never overfond of anyway, but her rendition of “Wexford Carol” remains my favorite on the album.”

2. Love Julie

“Nice set of slightly jazzy numbers with involvement and production by Bob Florence. Unfortunately, there’s extensive use of electric keyboards by Mr. Florence, which lends a cheesy and dated sound — completely at odds with Ms. Andrews’ heartfelt performances. Worth searching out, if only for Julie Andrews’ last non-theatrical type recorded performances (on which my rating is primarily based).”

1. A Christmas Treasure

“Julie Andrew’s Christmas is actually almost classical in arrangements and presentation. She is surrounded by full-blown classical orchestra and arrangements by Andre Previn who has added quite a few flutes, harpsichords and big choruses in the background, final effect is very majestic and cinematic,it’s like Christmas from some Disney movie.”
