Kreator Songs Ranked

Kreator is a German thrash metal band from Essen, formed in 1982. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Miland “Mille” Petrozza, drummer Jürgen “Ventor” Reil, lead guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, and bassist Frédéric Leclercq. The band’s lineup has changed multiple times over its 39-year career, most noticeably with their bassists and lead guitarists. Petrozza and Reil are the only two original members left in Kreator, though the latter had been out of the band from 1994 to 1996. Yli-Sirniö has been the lead guitarist of Kreator since 2001, while Leclercq joined in 2019 as the replacement of Christian “Speesy” Giesler, who had been a member of the band since 1994. The band has achieved worldwide sales of over two million units for combined sales of all their albums, making them one of the best-selling German thrash metal bands of all time. Along with Destruction, Sodom and Tankard, Kreator is one of the “big four” of Teutonic thrash metal, responsible for developing and popularizing the German thrash metal scene as well as pioneering the then-burgeoning death metal and black metal genres during the mid-1980s. Here are all of Kreator’s songs ranked.

10. Ripping Corpse (Pleasure to Kill, 1986)

“I’m not very good to figure out the meanings of songs, but this one is quite simple i guess… It’s about this ripping corpse who comes to kill everyone, it’s the description of he killing a guy’s family and then heading for him.”

9. Riot of Violence (Pleasure to Kill, 1986)

“If you love true thrash metal, you’re gonna love this song. Just listen to it when you really need to listen to metal music. One of the best riffs in Thrash Metal, and Jurgen’s voice just amkes the song even more awesome!”

8. Civilisation Collapse (Phantom Antichrist, 2012)

“Heavy and fast yet beautifully melodic and brutal. If only Slayer could produce an album of such quality instead of Turing out the same stuff over and over again (and I say this as a Slayer fan since Haunting the chapel days). I have subsequently bought most of the other Kreator back catalogue and am glad I did. A guilty pleasure who are setting the standard for melodic thrash metal.”

7. When the Sun Burns Red (Coma of Souls, 1990)

“This album shows a more mature band with better song writing skills, rather than just pure thrash metal aggression like in the eighties, but still keeping the violent edge. I’d recommend this album to any thrash or heavy metal fan”

6. Phantom Antichrist (Phantom Antichrist, 2012)

“Jaw-dropping… Best combination of melody and brutality I’ve heard in a long time. Not only the title song, but also the entire album is a masterpiece. In my opinion, one of Kreator’s (and thrash’s) best albums of all time.”

5. Pleasure to Kill (Pleasure to Kill, 1986)

“Kreator once again unleash another monster album on us. At first I thought I heard significant redundancy from the prior album, but subsequent listens prove different. Yes, they are still thrashing it up well with roaring speedy riffs galore however, this is also the most melodic album they’ve ever done.”

4. Coma of Souls (Coma of Souls, 1990)

“One of the last great thrash releases from year 1990. This is likely one of Kreator’s very best in this style post their early bm days. Coma of Souls is straight of arcadey thrash. No thick sound, very thin. But the album bangs. Complex while seeming unintricate the first time around. Held up as a classic for a reason. The intro riff is one of the best in thrash. Everything that follows is furious yet melodic. Perfection.”

3. Enemy of God (Enemy of God, 2005)

“This song is so awesome! I love the music video with that little girl! Mille and co. Have come really far since Pleasure… And the new album (at the time of this typing, Phantom Antichrist) is absolutely killer every song is outstanding”

2. Violent Revolution (Violent Revolution, 2001)

“Perhaps one of the most epic riffs. Kreator is generally amazing This was the reset between the thrash they were and the experimental band they had become. And it became the lodestone for what the true north of thrash is.”

1. People of the Lie (Coma of Souls, 1990)

“The best song of Thrash Metal. That’s my favorite song. Coma of Souls shows power riffs and violent solos, but the best is its agressive voice Superb lyrics and epic riffs. Simply the best of Coma of Souls.”
