Musroe finds tension and release on new double single ‘Left2Rot/Now’

Musroe’s new two-track release ‘Left2Rot/Now’ is built around contrast. The Montréal-based artist treats the pair as two halves of the same emotional cycle, moving from claustrophobia and overwhelm into a quieter state of release.

‘Left2Rot’ begins in a more suspended, uneasy space before gradually tightening. Originally built from an older guitar demo, the track was reshaped heavily during production, with electric guitars and increasingly urgent vocals pushing the song towards a point of near-collapse. The effect is deliberately constricting, reflecting the sensation of being caught inside a feeling that seems impossible to escape.

Whereas ‘Now’ works because it refuses to match that intensity. Created through experimentation with a looper pedal, the track layers several guitar parts into a slower, more ambient bed of sound. Where ‘Left2Rot’ is about being pulled deeper into a moment, ‘Now’ is what happens once that grip loosens.

Sonically, there are traces of ambient dream-pop, alternative indie-rock and more experimental production, but Musroe’s interest in genre seems secondary to the process itself. Her arrangements feel exploratory, shaped by trial, mutation and texture rather than by any obvious attempt to fit a particular scene.

As an introduction to the forthcoming EPHEMERA, ‘Left2Rot/Now’ is a concise but effective statement. Thoughtful, atmospheric and carefully constructed, it shows Musroe continuing to develop a body of work where sound and concept remain closely intertwined.
