My Chemical Romance Albums Ranked

My Chemical Romance (commonly abbreviated MCR or shortened to My Chem) is an American rock band from Newark, New Jersey. The band’s current lineup consists of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, and bassist Mikey Way. Founded by Gerard, Mikey, Toro, and Matt Pelissier (and later joined by Iero), the band signed to Eyeball Records and released their debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, in 2002. They signed with Reprise Records the next year and released their major-label debut, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, in 2004. Shortly after the album’s release, Pelissier was replaced by Bob Bryar. A commercial success, the album was awarded platinum status over a year later.
The band eclipsed the success of their previous albums with their 2006 concept album, The Black Parade, which gained generally favorable reviews among music critics and was certified double platinum in the United States and the United Kingdom, the band’s only double platinum. After the departure of long-time drummer Bob Bryar in March 2010, the band released their fourth studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, in November that same year, to positive reviews. The band replaced Bryar on tour with drummers including Michael Pedicone and Jarrod Alexander. After the addition of touring keyboardist James Dewees in 2012 and the release of Conventional Weapons, a series of singles recorded in 2009, released over the course of five months, the band announced its breakup on March 22, 2013, one month after the final release in the Conventional Weapons series. After the band’s split, a greatest hits album titled May Death Never Stop You was released in March 2014.  A tenth-anniversary reissue of The Black Parade, including demos and live versions of the B-sides from the album and an early version of “Welcome to the Black Parade”, titled “The Five of Us Are Dying”, was released on September 23, 2016, titled The Black Parade/Living with Ghosts. Here are all of My Chemical Romance’s albums ranked.

9. The Black Parade/Living With Ghosts (2016)

“I like this album. A lot. So go ahead and sue me if you don’t like it, motherfucker, or better yet, go back to your mother’s basement and jack off to your Beatles records. The Velvet Underground and Nico could eat Sgt. Pepper’s for breakfast anyway. First off, with their third effort, the New Jersey quintet have taken the first step away from the MTV-friendly emo-punk they first became famous for, taking large amounts of influence from grandiose ’70s arena rock bands (Queen being a name that gets thrown around a lot). Granted, it’s not a radical change, for better or for worse, but  the evolution is definitely a much-appreciated gesture, as emo as we knew it circa Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge had run its course even before The Black Parade’s release in 2006.”

8. The Black Parade Is Dead! (2008)

“Although I may be the minority here, although it is a good album and the songs are well wrote, they fail to capture the essence and the high quality sound they produce on their albums. Gerards voice is not great playing live and he rarely hits the high notes that takes your breath away on the studio album even if it is three times better a performance then he used to give when he was still drinking. Also it might just be me but the guitars could be louder too. The mixing is good, but it could be better. The DVD performance in NJ is better because it seems to be a more energetic performance and it showcases MCR, not the black parade. I won’t complain though; I got this for 6 euro which is great value for a CD and DVD. They are a great band but live performances as a whole band is not their strongest point.”

7. May Death Never Stop You (2014)

“May Death Never Stop You is probably the most essential MCR release. sure, Black Parade and Three Cheers are really great records, but neither of them meet the level this compilation does for me, as this has a great new original song, the best cuts from BP and TC, as well as danger days, demos from their debut and some great early cuts. What more could you ask for?”

6. Life On The Murder Scene (2006)

Life on the Murder Scene by My Chemical Romance (Album; Reprise ...

“This isn’t that fun to listen to all in a row because there’s a lot of repeats and Gerard sounds drunk and exhausted. I guess this is good to have for archival purposes, but the band really wasn’t good live until Gerard got sober and took vocal lessons. If my rating included the excellent documentary, I would give this a four, but it’s a 2.5 just for the live stuff. Bury Me in Black and Desert Song are great though.”

5. Conventional Weapons (2013)

“Compiling the songs from their five-part single series Conventional Weapons, My Chemical romance apparently decided to use these tracks to give a slideshow of everything they are good at. Bouncy punk tracks? Check. Infectious Pop-Rock? Check. Heartbreaking ballads? Oh yes. Post-hardcore flavored emo bangers? Check. And, finally, gigantic power ballads? Check, check, check. This compilation is a great showcase of their catchy songwriting, knack for memorable moments, unique guitar-interplay between Frank and Ray and Gerards passionate vocals. Every song on here deserves some form of deeper analysis, but to make it short, this is the most immediate and accessible set of songs MCR have. If you are looking for the easiest and fastest way to get someone interested in them, show them this project, because it shows them everything they need to know, and the albums are even better. So, yeah, fantastic stuff.”

4. I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love (2002)

“This album isn’t as well-produced as Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, nor is it as pure good as Black Parade. But this is one of the reasons why My Chem’s first release is one of their greatest. Gerald Way’s voice is less than perfect, but the songs are so dark and fast that the gravelly screams just make this album that much appealing. Like Three Cheers, the instruments are not as overpowering as The Black Parade, but nothing My Chem will ever do will match that high level of brilliance. If your a fan of post-hardcore or if you absolutely hate My Chem, buy this album. Seriously.”

3. Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys (2010)

“I LOVE this album, its colorful, satirical, obnoxious, chauvinistic and annoying, which is what I’m sure what they were going for. This album should not be taken seriously, its just a really fun and excitement filled concept album meant to entertain and entertain only, and entertain it does. “Na Na Na” is the greatest satirical lyrics that isn’t a Weird Al song. “Bullet Proof Heart” and “Planetary Go!” are legitimate songs as one is a perfect ballad and the other is a great anthem for just doing just about anything. Other good ballads are “Save Yourself I’ll Hold them back” and “The Only Hope for Me is You”. “S/C/A/R/E/C/R/O/W” is just mellow and musically tight and sound, a great riff and melody too.”

2. Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (2004)

“”This album is perfect for everyone who wants to paint it black. A punk rock album meant for gods and goddesses of their own world who need some theme music when they walk the street strutting their stuff like they own the place. Because when you listen to Gerard Way scream that he’s not okay, you hone his sassy and swing your hips to a new, chemical, rhythm that will do nothing less then make the pop princesses bow down to the ruler of grunge and punk rock that is you.”

1. The Black Parade (2006)

” Truth to be told, one of the greatest records of 2006. This album rocks. My Chemical Romance has produced the best of album of their career.. Making a division between rock and roll (“Dead!”, “This Is How I Disappear”, “The Sharpest Lives”, “House Of Wolves”, “Famous Last Words”, “Teenagers” [hey, there’s a Marc Bolan’s ghost here!]), power ballads (“I Don’t Love You”, “Cancer”, “Sleep”), and weird, unique and creative tracks (“Welcome To The Black Parade”, “Mama”, “Blood”), the album have a scaring and gorgeous variety.. More points to the history, too, and all the dark sense of humor that they have. ‘Emophobics’, sorry to tell you, but My Chemical Romance is one of the best bands of rock and roll of this decade!
