Mystic Knights return with defiant new single ‘Count’
After more than 20 years behind the kit with Australian rock giants Jet, Chris Cester returns in commanding form with his new band Mystic Knights, and a sharp new single to match. ‘Count’ marks a bold leap forward for the drummer-turned-frontman, blending raw garage rock attitude with a sly critique of formulaic songwriting.
Written during a period of personal reset, ‘Count’ began as a late-night experiment; just a riff, a laptop, and a pulse. What emerged is a tightly wound track that builds tension rather than following the rulebook. It opens with a familiar count-in… only to dismantle the trope entirely. Gritty and minimalist, the track leans into instinct over polish, attitude over artifice.
Formed alongside Aaron Eisenberg and Emmanuel Castro, Mystic Knights channels the spirit of ‘70s punk and dirty rock ‘n’ roll, while delivering something entirely their own. Named by longtime friend Noel Gallagher, the band showcases a new era for Cester: one where he takes centre stage as a voice in full control.
