Nine Lives Songs Ranked
Nine Lives is the eighth studio album by REO Speedwagon. It peaked at number #33 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1979. The album went gold on December 5, 1979. The title Nine Lives was chosen because the album was the band’s ninth, including their live album, and it also featured nine songs. It was the last REO album to prominently feature a more hard rock sound. The group would turn to more pop-oriented material with 1980’s Hi Infidelity. In 2013, the album was released on CD by UK-based company Rock Candy Records, with expanded liner notes and photos. The track “Only The Strong Survive” also later appeared on Gary Richrath’s 1992 album Only the Strong Survive. Here are all of Nine Lives songs ranked.

9. Rock & Roll Music
“The rest of the tracks are average at best with the worst of these being the group’s abysmal cover of Chuck Berry’s “Rock & Roll Music” which cannot shake a stick at the original.”
8. Back on the Road Again
“Real nice guitar work from Mr. Richrath and “Back on the Road Again” is a fantastic track. This is the last of the good hard rock albums from these guys, from here on they are driven by commercial”
7. Easy Money
“Easy Money” keeps it melodic as well with an edge.A really nice album cover with big cats and some really sexy felines as well. definite for REO fans, considering we’ll probably never hear anything of this caliber again.”

6. Only the Strong Survive
“Only the strong survive” combines a catchy melody and chorus while still keeping its hard rocking identity of the first two songs. This is by far probably the hardest rocking albums of the band.”
5. Meet Me on the Mountain
“Meet me on the mountain” gets the album back on track with again great melodies and musicianship. Meet me on the Mountain is one of the best REO tracks ever. The best part of this album is that there is no blatently “made-for-radio” songs, it is the greatest band ever kicking butt.”
4. Drop It (An Old Disguise)
“Blazing to the next rocker “Drop it” keeps the flow with the hard classic rock that is really missed in music these days (R.E.O included). A good abum, which rocks. A little different that “You can tune a piano….”, but still a lot of nice tracks to be found here.”

3. I Need You Tonight
“I need you tonight” is pretty much a filler and it sounds out of place with the rocking tunes before and after. Probably one of REO’s top albums. You can’t go wrong with this one. If you are an REO fan, this is one of their best! Buy It!”
2. Take Me
“Take Me” is my favorite track off this album. Great lyrics and Gary bleeds through with a solo where every note is meant to be there. Overall love the energy on this album, Cronin’s unique style of singing works well with the music and the band seems to be enjoying themselves. I bit heavier sound overall whch toned down in their later releases.
1. Heavy on Your Love
“This album starts off with two very aggressive numbers which are very well suited for open air arena’s. These two songs always remind me of hot summer concerts, with the smell of booze and sweat and people with long hair jamming to the sound aimlessly.”
