Norah Jones (born Geethali Norah Jones Shankar; March 30, 1979) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and pianist. She has won multiple awards and has sold more than 50 million records worldwide. Billboard named her the top jazz artist of the 2000s decade. She has won nine Grammy Awards and was ranked 60th on Billboard magazine’s artists of the 2000s decade chart. In 2002, Jones launched her solo music career with the release of Come Away with Me, which was a fusion of jazz with country, blues, folk, and pop. It was certified diamond, selling over 27 million copies. The record earned Jones five Grammy Awards, including the Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best New Artist. Her subsequent studio albums—Feels Like Home (2004), Not Too Late (2007), and The Fall (2009) all gained platinum status, selling over a million copies each. They were also generally well received by critics. Jones’s fifth studio album, Little Broken Hearts, was released on April 27, 2012; her sixth, Day Breaks, was released on October 7, 2016. Her seventh studio album, Pick Me Up Off the Floor, was released on June 12, 2020. Jones made her feature film debut as an actress in My Blueberry Nights, which was released in 2007 and was directed by Wong Kar-Wai. Jones is the daughter of Indian sitar master and composer Ravi Shankar and concert producer Sue Jones, and is the half-sister of fellow musicians Anoushka Shankar and Shubhendra Shankar. 9. Begin Again, 2019
“I like to listen to Norah Jones, these pleasant jazz atmosphere and her voice. Calming albums, which undoubtedly include the artist’s from New York seventh album, have their own taste and help you relax. This is the dose we get on this release, but there are no breakthrough songs for her career, the album is warm and even. There is only one minus, twenty seven minutes is the material for the EP and not for the studio album.”

“I highly recommend this LP. It played well, and the music is great. It blurs a lot of different flavors of music: pop, jazz, blues, & kind of becomes its own thing in the process. It is a bit different than the other records of hers that I’ve heard so perhaps some of her pre-existing fans won’t dig this as much. That’s okay. What I like about this record is that it feels like I went on a journey when I finished listening to it. That’s my favorite type of album. It was steady, soft, & subtle.”

“If you are an eclectic person, you will love this CD. It is a genre-bending, wonderfully recorded recording. If you have narrow tastes in music or want Nora to do only what she has done before, then you are only going to find a few things you will like. If you are willing to listen, and truly understand the music, you will find that Nora has immaculate taste in her selection of musical partners and the ability to be a full participant with some of the most outstanding musicians out there. I had overlooked this CD as I was busy playing my own music, but I find the mix fantastic. As a musician, I so much wish that I could have the opportunity to play with greats like Herbie Hancock, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and the Foo Fighters, and others. Nora holds her own with all of them. If you find the association of these greats somehow off-putting, then remember that change happens and you need to grow with it. Listen to the complexity of this music and the musicianship.”

6. Not Too Late, 2007
“Not Too Late is Norah Jones’ third album. I’m not sure I would say this is my favorite by her, but it seems to be the one I’ve listened to the most over the last few years. It took some time to grow on me, but I ended up pretty fond of this album. This is very mellow music. The songs don’t shake me with any sort of intense power, but they have a sort of quiet strength that starts to sneak into your heart over time. Standouts for me are the title track, Not Too Late, Rosie’s Lullaby, Not My Friend, Wake Me Up, and Wish I Could. But most of the songs I’m not as into are still pretty good.”
5. Day Breaks, 2016
“Day Breaks is the kind of album I’ve been wishing Norah Jones would record for a long time (I’m also a big fan of the album New York City by the Peter Malick group, on which Norah appeared as the featured vocalist). Hearing her record some genuine jazz tunes (some of them originals, even!) with great instrumentalists like Wayne Shorter, John Patitucci, and Brian Blade makes for some very enjoyable listening. Duke Ellington’s haunting “Fleurette Africaine” makes a great closing track for this excellent album. Highly recommended.”

“On this CD, adult contemporary goddess Norah Jones has taken a moderate turn to the left, into pop/rock territory. To me it is a refreshing change. Although I loved her Grammy-winning “Don’t Know Why”, most of her music was a little too soft and mellow for me. This album changes that. And since Norah wrote or co-wrote all of the songs, it seems that she is making an artistic statement that she wants us to notice. Don’t worry. We’re not talking hip-hop here, just tasteful change, nothing too extreme.”

“I’m a big Norah fan and bottom line, Norah makes great music. This album isn’t my favorite – I’m in love with her first two albums and I never listened to all the way through the two before this most recent one. But, it is certainly enjoyable. It is clear that this album is a departure from her old style in a lot of ways. I can hear a lot of trending elements in the music – for example, way more distortion in this album than any of her others.”
