8. Thunder & Roses
“Pam Tillis seemed to hit a rut for a while, this trend continued with her 2001 album THUNDER & ROSES. It’s all touch and go basically. The album has a more polished, adult sound, than any of her other albums. While she shines on some tracks, others sound out of place. The title track, originaly done by Mindy McCready, is an emotional song she handles well. The highlight of the album however is the only song she helped pen “Off-White”, a song about getting married for a second time, beautiful song.”
7. RhineStoned
“RHINESTONED is a superb country record with lots of heart and varied rhythms, styles and even genres. The duet with John Anderson is lots of fun, and they’re great together. My favorite has shaken out to be “Down By The Water,” a fast and catchy folk/rock song. Pam has succeeded again at telling great stories, and singing with a clearly engaged voice. We believe every word. In songs like “Train Without A Whistle,” “Crazy By Myself” and “Bettin’ Money On Our Love,” we get vividly etched portraits of people and the singer herself. The playing on this album is just about perfect throughout.”
6. It’s All Relative: Tillis Sings Tillis
“Pam really has a beautiful voice and it shows more on the balads….So wrong is just unbelievable and it puts her into a whole new catagory…..and if you haven’t seen the video – Then you MUST. It is the absolute best. I really wish Pam would do more of this type of music and I really don’t understand why she doesn’t. She certainly has the voice for it..Actually I would love to hear a whole album from Pam of standards.”
5. Every Time
“I admittedly haven’t frequently listened to the rest of the album. It’s ’90’s country. Pam’s singing always sounds good. A little twang, but not overly so. She has a smallish voice…almost putting me in the mind of Allison Krauss, though not quite. Sounds cute, I guess. Overall the album is good with a mix of ballads and uptempo pieces…nothing else as powerful as “I Said a Prayer”, but quite pallatable.”

4. All Of This Love
“Pam Tillis is one of the lesser promoted, but extremely well known artists who emerged in the country/rock scene along the lines of Reba and the Judds. This was one of her mid nineties offerings and continued her long line of truly talented songs. Soft voiced, but with a strong flavor, she sings from the heart and with this CD it shows. “
3. Sweetheart’s Dance
“While Pam Tillis has produced a string of first-rate country singles, she doesn’t always hit the mark when it comes to following through with an album’s worth of first-rate material. SWEETHEART’S DANCE is one of those exceptions, however–not only is it inarguably the best album in her catalog, but remains one of the great country albums of the nineties.”
2. Put Yourself In My Place
“Listening to this album recently it sounds as fresh as it did when it was released. This was the period when Country went back to its roots and moved away from the pop sound that dominated the 70’s/80’s. This is when country peaked in my mind, before Nashville decided that heavy rock was the way forward in the 2000’s.”
1. Homeward Looking Angel
“During her early music career, Pam Tillis experimented with pop, rock, new wave, and even disco. Inevitably, she found her way back to her country roots (her father is country legend Mel Tillis) and created one of the best country debuts of the ’90s with 1991’s distinctive Put Yourself In My Place. This 1992 follow-up sounded just as confident and fresh, yet impressively offered a different sound, a rarity in the formulaic world of modern country music.”
