Paul Mccartney Songs Ranked

Sir James Paul McCartney CH MBE (born 18 June 1942) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, composer, and record and film producer who gained worldwide fame as co-lead vocalist and bassist for the Beatles. His songwriting partnership with John Lennon remains the most successful in history. After the group disbanded in 1970, he pursued a solo career and formed the band Wings with his first wife, Linda, and Denny Laine. A self-taught musician, McCartney is proficient on bass, guitar, keyboards, and drums. He is known for his melodic approach to bass-playing (mainly playing with a plectrum), his versatile and wide tenor vocal range (spanning over four octaves), and his eclecticism (exploring styles ranging from pre-rock and roll pop to classical and electronica). McCartney began his career as a member of the Quarrymen in 1957, which evolved into the Beatles in 1960. Starting with the 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, he gradually became the Beatles’ de facto leader, providing the creative impetus for most of their music and film projects. His Beatles songs “And I Love Her” (1964), “Yesterday” (1965), “Eleanor Rigby” (1966), and “Blackbird” (1968) rank among the most covered songs in history. In 1970, McCartney debuted as a solo artist with the album McCartney. Throughout the 1970s, he led Wings, one of the most successful bands of the decade, with more than a dozen international top 10 singles and albums. McCartney resumed his solo career in 1980. Since 1989, he has toured consistently as a solo artist. In 1993, he formed the music duo the Fireman with Youth of Killing Joke. Beyond music, he has taken part in projects to promote international charities related to such subjects as animal rights, seal hunting, land mines, vegetarianism, poverty, and music education.McCartney is one of the most successful composers and performers of all time. He has written or co-written 32 songs that have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and as of 2009, had sales of 25.5 million RIAA-certified units in the United States. His honors include two inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of the Beatles in 1988 and as a solo artist in 1999), 18 Grammy Awards, an appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1965, and a knighthood in 1997 for services to music. 19. Here, There and Everywhere (Revolver, 1966)

“Fun Fact: Paul McCartney was at a party and he heard the song God Only Knows, by the band The Beach Boys, off their album Pet Sounds, and the song impressed him as one of the most beautiful songs ever made (he might have used some of those words exactly) That night he went home and wrote Here, There, and Everywhere.”

18. The Fool on the Hill (Magical Mystery Tour, 1967)

” Paul’s live presentation of Fool On The Hill during the “Tripping The Live Fantastic Tour” lends validation to this theory for sure! Fool On The Hill is Paul McCartney alive, aware, in the thick of it, introspective and at his VERY, VERY BEST!”

17. Hello, Goodbye (Back in the U.S., 2002)

16. Beware My Love (Wings at the Speed of Sound, 1976)

“Wings were so cool. They could do progressive rock epics in the late 70’s. When punk was trying to destroy prog, Pink Floyd and Wings showed whos boss. Great Progressive Rock from the 4th greatest band of the 70’s. Long Live Wings”

15. Penny Lane (Magical Mystery Tour, 1967)

“Best lyric, best melody, best production! Had it stuck in my head for weeks. An excellent example of McCartney’s genius. Words can’t describe”

14. Here Today (Give My Regards to Broad Street, 1982)

“If you think Lennon and McCartney were worst enemies and they didn’t care about each other, listen to this. This is a underrated masterpiece. This should get more attention from Lennon fans, and one of my favourite songs of all time.”

13. Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / the End (Abbey Road, 1969)

“I love this song, but this song does not start at Golden Slumbers. It goes all the way from You Never Give Me Your Money to The End. Although you almost couldn’t count it then because John wrote three tracks in the middle and this is a Paul McCartney list. Anyway, I love this song and I love Abby Road and I love music.”

12. Say Say Say (Pipes of Peace, 1983)

“A combination of both legends of our time who will never be replaced again for sure. A classic duet with Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney himself. “Say Say Say” is basically a McCartney song with added vocals by Jackson. There’s nothing remotely soul about this track, it’s an okay pop song tricked up beyond its weight.

11. Jet (All the Best!, 1987)

“Great upbeat Rock/Power Pop song from 1973. Probably my favorite Paul McCartney song, he did this single with The Wings. Had it stuck in my head for weeks. An excellent example of McCartney’s genius. Words can’t describe.”

10. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five (Band on the Run, 1973)

“The best Paul McCartney in my opinion. Amazing harmony and the instruments all perfect played. In this song McCartney sings fantastically and his lyrics are very good. I would recommended as the best with no hesitation.”

“A poetic statement on loneliness, isolation, life and death… The sum of one’s life. One of the MOST unique and ground breaking compositions in rock’s history. An amazing ARTISTIC statement in a music that had NOT been considered ART prior! The Beatles, through McCartney, found a new sophistication and depth with Eleanor Rigby.”
