REVIEW: The Road Warrior – ‘Ignition Sequence’

Ashtabula’s The Road Warrior don’t ease you into their debut EP, they floor it from the first note. ‘Ignition Sequence’ is an adrenaline-charged soundtrack for backroads and freeways alike, the kind of music that makes you check your speedometer halfway through the first track.

The band recorded the EP in a sweat-soaked basement they lovingly call “Hell,” and the environment bleeds through every second. There’s no polish here, no studio trickery; just the raw immediacy of a group captured in full flight. The guitars howl with reckless abandon, solos darting in and out like sparks off the pavement. Bass rumbles with the grit of an unmuffled engine, while the drums pound forward with the momentum of a chase scene.

What makes ‘Ignition Sequence’ more than a noisy joyride is its sense of storytelling. The Road Warrior spin tales through their riffs and vocal grit, conjuring visions of midnight drives, blown-out speakers, and roads that stretch farther than your headlights can reach. Every track feels like another gear shift, pulling you deeper into their world until there’s no turning back.

There’s a dangerous charm in the way these songs dare you to keep up. You can hear the sweat, the strain, the imperfections; all of it feeding into the urgency. With ‘Ignition Sequence’, The Road Warrior are throwing down a gauntlet. It’s visceral, unrelenting, and best experienced loud, in motion, with the world blurring by.
