Sabaton Songs Ranked

Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band from Falun, Sweden. Most of their songs are written about heroism in war. Their latest album, The Great War, hit number 1 among music charts in Sweden and Germany. Sabaton was formed in December 1999. After the first songs were recorded in Peter Tägtgren’s studio, The Abyss, Sabaton was contacted by a couple of record labels. The band signed with the Italian label Underground Symphony, which then released, internationally, the promo CD Fist for Fight. The disc, distilled from two demo tapes recorded between 1999 and 2000, was intended to promote forthcoming Sabaton releases. In 2002, a new album, Metalizer was recorded and was supposed to be distributed by Underground Symphony as the band’s debut album. After two years of waiting, during which the band held various performances across Sweden, the album was abandoned. Here are all of Sabaton’s songs ranked.

15. Coat of Arms (Coat of Arms, 2010)

“This is a song about a moment in history unfortunately most historians choose to skip over! The Greco-Italian war is my absolute favorite part of WWII to learn about! This song is the song that brought me to the YouTube channel Sabaton History, that brought me to Indy Neidell, he gave me a massive interest in History, and a knack to learn more about it.”

14. Resist and Bite (Heroes, 2014)

“This song is about the stand of a Dutch battalion of soldiers, I’m still researching the battle but the soldiers held their ground against the German War-machine while it was at its best! and they even held back Rommel’s Ghost Division.”

13. Screaming Eagles (Coat of Arms, 2010)

“The story of the Screaming Eagles (the 101st Airborne division) was so fantastic, so action packed, and so brutal, that they not only made this song so metal you could supply Erwin Rommel for a year. But they made a show about the Battered Bastards of Bastogne! These guys held off the fury of the Wehrmacht at full throttle, something France, Poland, the UK, and even the USSR failed to do! The Battle of the Bulge is the battle in WWII where Germany started taking America seriously, because you don’t hear anything like “the battered bastards of bastogne” for any other battle.”

12. Bismarck (Bismarck, 2019)

“This song is beautiful and perfect. I know the lyrics by heart (please don’t ask me to sing) and it is made even better with scenes from World Of Warships Wargaming. An absolute masterpiece.”

11. 40:1 (The Art of War, 2008)

“About the Invasion of Poland at the very beginning of WW2. Although Poland was conquered within a few weeks, it caused the German army far greater losses than they had expected.”

10. Uprising (Coat of Arms, 2010)

“A great song that tells an amazing story. A beautiful song for the men, women and children who fought for Polish freedom.”

9. Shiroyama (The Last Stand, 2016)

“This song sounds badass, but the story it tells is even more badass. 500 samurai, with swords and spears, fought against 30,000 imperial soldiers armed with rifles and cannons. To the death; not one of the samurai survived. They probably died because the size and weight of their testicles interfered with fighting.”

8. The Price of a Mile (The Art of War, 2008)

“For some reason, this song just has something about it that describes war better than any other song. Their other songs are rousing and patriotic, but this one makes me want to cry. Too many men died, for too little.”

7. Night Witches (Heroes, 2014)

“Absolutely amazing song, powerful lyrics that really moved me, very driving tone that really seems to put it away. Night Witches is a story of extreme heroism and stealth.”

6. The Lost Battalion (The Last Stand, 2016)

“This song like Into the Fire is told from the perspective of an american soldier, only instead of the jungles of Vietnam, he is trapped in the Argonne forest as he and the rest of Liberty Division stand strong against the German attackers. Refusing to surrender, choosing Victory or Death. This battle is why the USA chooses Spartans as symbols of freedom. Because Spartans are the only other warrior that can hold that line in such horrid conditions.”

5. Primo Victoria (Primo Victoria, 2005)

“Primo Victoria is a an excellent start for Sabaton and an album that gives fans a great idea of what the band is all about and why they’ve become so popular over the years. It has a few classic tracks that feel like they laid the blueprint for many future songs, as well as a couple more unique tracks that show a darker sound the band never explored much beyond their first two albums.”

4. The Last Stand (The Last Stand, 2016)

“The Last Stand is the maximum perfection of his proposal, the highest point of his career. Everything is taken care of in detail, everything is perfectly studied so that its magic formula sounds more crystalline and elegant than ever.”

3. Ghost Division (The Art of War, 2008)

“This song, Ghost division, puts pure emphasis on how swift, effective, and efficient Erwin Rommel was, the Desert fox of Africa, and the winner of the first Tour de France is the General Robert E. Lee of his time, an amazing general, and soldier. but he fought for the wrong side of history, and is seen purely as the bad guy.”

2. Carolus Rex (Carolus Rex, 2012)

“Carolus Rex is certainly an impressive release, as while the band had done a concept album before in The Art of War, this one is a full scale narrative concept, chronicling the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire, specifically focusing on King Charles XII, from whom the album gets its title.”

1. To Hell and Back (Heroes, 2014)

“As a listener with a taste for melodic songs, To Hell And Back is one of my “prototypes for a hit”. A catchy (headbanging in other genres) rhythm, a strong melody and a contrasting song structure: that’s all I wanted. This particular song has it all for me, so, though I reckon Sabaton has produced many good songs such as Shiroyama, Sparta, Metal Crüe or Back In Control, there’s no debate for me. To Hell And Back is my favorite song of my favorite power metal band”
