20. If I Can’t Have You (Shawn Mendes, 2018)
“I love this song so much and I’m so mad that it’s at #32 it should be at #1 it also sounds like There’s Nothing Holdin Me Back. The Rhythm and beat of the song sounds like There’s Nothing Holdin Me Back and this song is always playing on repeat in my head such a cute song that I want to sing along to it but I get really nervous about singing in the car when my mom or dad is driving”
19. Never Be Alone (Handwritten, 2015)
“This song is definitely my favorite from Shawn. It is just so beautiful. I think the song is written from the side of a guy who’s about to leave his girl for some overseas job and they both know that they’ll now have to pursue a long-distance relationship. This song is the guy’s assurance that he’ll always remain loyal to her. It’s so breathtakingly beautiful and Shawn’s vocal delivery is effortless and raw. Moreover, it has that mountain vibe to it, which makes it all the fresher.”
18. Little Too Much (Handwritten, 2015)
“Beautiful piano chords are integrated with the strumming of the guitar. meanwhile the harmony carries out its own tune which blends in with the backing, weaving in and out of diminished and augmented chords”
17. The Weight (Handwritten, 2015)
“Shawn Mendes’s most common key signatures for songs are C major and Bb major. His least common key signatures for songs are F major and E major, but he once sang an F major version of his Eb major song Crazy.”

16. Bad Reputation (Illuminate, 2016)
“Probably the best build-up to a chorus ever and the chorus itself definitely doesn’t disappoint itself. In my opinion, the best song he ever made, extremely underrated”
15. Senorita (Senorita, 2019)
“In a never-ending jungle of pop music that all sounds the same, this song is truly a masterpiece. Even though I only listened to this song once I love it now it has a great beat to the music in the background and I love Shawn Mendes.”
14. I Don’t Even Know Your Name (Handwritten, 2015)
“Shawn Mendes wrote this song for a fan! He met her at, like, a meet and greet! And they talked a little. And Shawn got a crush on HER! So he wrote this for her. He also saw her at his concert in San Diego 2016 while he was singing, “I Don’t Even Know Your Name”! He whispered to his band “That’s HER!!! It’s HER!!! And then he just kept staring at meanwhile singing the song! I don’t know how the fan felt but he felt amazing and nervous at the same time!! He fell in love with her”
13. Imagination (Handwritten, 2015)
“This song has elements from two Taylor Swift songs; White Horse and Mine. In the choruses of both Mine and Imagination there’s a line that a sudden “for the first time.”
12. Understand (Illuminate, 2016)
“This song has a lot of Shawn’s actual voice and beliefs and insecurities in it and I think that’s what makes it so powerful and relatable.”
11. Kid In Love (Handwritten, 2015)
“For me, the song is about what you think falling in love feels like. Shawn Mendes thinks that being/falling in love feels like a kid. So when you’re in love and you obviously don’t want it to end, you don’t want to grow up.”
10. Something Big (Handwritten, 2015)
“This song is wonderful! It’s totally upbeat and cheerful! Something big by Shawn Mendes paints a picture of a spirit who knows that their life is going to get better, but that they are still going to make the best of their life along the way. Something big also follows in a similarly optimistic vein as his other music hit the life of the party.
9. Don’t Be a Fool (Illuminate, 2016)
“Just love the sixties vibe the beat has and not only that, it’s on the best album that’s ever been made. I’m so in love with this song. the love I have for it is indescribable.”
8. Life of the Party (Life of the Party, 2014)
“Basically this song is about being yourself. He’s saying that everyone in this world is different and that’s okay, that no one should take shame in being the individual they are, they should embrace it, and strive to continue to be yourself no matter the circumstance. He’s encouraging all of the shy and self-conscious people to come out of their shells a little bit and push to show how great they can really be. Not everyone is going to have a soulmate/other half. So at the end of the day just we are all different, were all under the same sky, and we all love each other.”
7. Lost in Japan (Shawn Mendes, 2018)
“Personally I think this is the best single he’s ever released pre-album. The love I have for this song never dies. and it’s not annoyingly catchy and terribly written like senorita. everyone genuinely enjoys this one… even the boomers!”

6. In My Blood (Shawn Mendes, 2018)
“This is his BEST song and the lyrics are so heartfelt and relatable. it talks about his experience through anxiety and what he feels, but how he can’t and won’t let it get to him. it really is such a close-to-heart song that so many people can connect to.”
5. Mercy (Illuminate, 2016)
“I like the lyrics, they’re just emotional and reasonable. The melody was even perfect- I love the acoustic version in specific! Good job Shawn! “
4. I Know What You Did Last Summer (Handwritten, 2015)
“Their voices are amazing in this song. Absolutely love this song! This is the song that introduced me to Shawn Mendes, and I instantly fell in love. I think that it is his far and away best.”
3. Treat You Better (Illuminate, 2016)
“This is like my life in a song. I couldn’t bear to see my crush with another and we were really close. But then god exists and now were together. It’s my go to song.”
2. There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back (Illuminate, 2016)
“I love this song so much. The chorus is fun and I love the upbeat pace. The Rhythm of the guitar and the Beat is catchy. It always ends up getting stuck in my head. I just love the lyrics of the song, the best, rhythm, tempo, how upbeat it is, the high energy and the pace. This song makes me go crazy and wild”
1. Stitches (Live At Madison Square Garden, 2016)
“I think the song refers to a person slitting their wrists due to a bad breakup. Typically survivors of this type of suicide attempt will end up with stitches from the laceration. He also states, “I’m left seeing red on my own,” as a person committing suicide in this way would see a lot of blood and would do it alone. Furthermore, the phrase “going under” can refer to drowning or anesthesia, but in this context it would be “going under the knife”. Also, “begging you to come help,” refers to suicide being a “cry for help””
