Sidewave reach beyond the ordinary on towering new single ‘The Surface’

Sidewave reach for something beyond the confines of everyday life on ‘The Surface’, an expansive new track from forthcoming album Dispel.

Built around the project’s increasingly enormous atmospheric-rock sound, the song turns longing into something almost celestial. Its lyrics continually shift between earth and sky, contrasting the sensation of falling back towards the surface with the desire to escape towards something distant, brilliant and seemingly impossible to reach.

The music mirrors that upward journey beautifully. Patient, weighty grooves gradually give way to towering melodic choruses, while dense layers of guitar create a constant tension between heaviness and space. A soaring guitar solo pushes things higher still before the final section opens into Sidewave at their most vast and immersive.

Heavy, melodic and searching, ‘The Surface’ captures Sidewave looking beyond what can be touched or understood, and sounding absolutely colossal in the process.
