Smash Mouth Albums Ranked

Smash Mouth is an American rock band from San Jose, California. The band was formed in 1994 and was originally composed of Steve Harwell (lead vocals), Kevin Coleman (drums), Greg Camp (guitar), and Paul De Lisle (bass). They are known for their songs “Walkin’ on the Sun” (1997), “All-Star” (1999), “Then The Morning Comes” (1999), and a cover of The Monkees’ “I’m a Believer” (2001). The band adopted retro styles covering several decades of popular music. They have also performed numerous covers of popular songs, including War’s “Why, Can’t We Be Friends?”, Simple Minds’ “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”,? & the Mysterians’ “Can’t Get Enough of You Baby”, the Beatles’ “Getting Better”, and “I Wan’na Be Like You” from The Jungle Book. They also composed 2 songs for the South Korean animated film Pororo, The Racing Adventure: “Beside Myself” and “Everything Just Crazy”. Here are all Smash Mouth albums ranked.

7. Summer Girl (2006)

“Summer Girl” is their fifth album, and it comes with a few changes such as their first release on their own record label, Beautiful Bomb, which is great. Also, they somehow dug up 80’s gem Robbie Nevil to co-write “Everyday Superhero” and “Story Of My Life”, two of the best tracks on “Summer Girl”.

6. Magic (2012)

“It is immediately clear in the opening seconds of the lead track, “Perfect Planet,” that Smash Mouth has not lost the ability to craft the perfect little slice of sunny power pop, the upbeat anthem is a great opener. “Live to Love Another Day” recalls a previous hit, “Walkin on the Sun,” while the album’s lead single “Magic” comes off as a more mellow, more melodic ode to their pop-punk past.”

5. Get The Picture? (2003)

“From the opening song to the final track this album just blows me away. Somehow, 4 albums in and still their only signature is that every album is different. Best comparison is that this album is the PERFECT mix of “Astro Lounge” and “Smash Mouth” Until today I was never quite so blown away as the first time I listened to “Fush Yu Mang” but now, “Get the Picture” has just become my favourite Smash Mouth album.”

4. All Star Smash Hits (2005)

“The best thing about “All Star” is everybody likes it and you can play it anywhere. Whether I’m just having a couple friends over or I’m hosting a full-fledged AA meeting, I rock “All Star” to get things going! It also gets things going in the bedroom. Last time I “made out” with a woman, it was to this song. Romantic women usually like this song, unless you tell them to close their eyes and call you Smash.”

3. Smash Mouth (2001)

“The album begins with the great “Holiday in My Head,” a sunny, happy guitar-laden tune with motivational lyrics. “Your Man” is a heartfelt, very well-constructed love song that is very catchy, and while it doesn’t stand out upon first listen, it’s a very nice track. “Pacific Coast Party” is this album’s anthem, heavy on whistling strings and a woozy synth. Few songs evoke the breezy California lifestyle like this one, a classic party song. “She Turns Me On” and “Sister Psychic” are two very catchy, clever pop songs constructed perfectly from the Smash Mouth formula. “Out of Sight” and “Force Field” are both a little slower, heavier on the ideas presented in Harwell’s verses.”

2. Fush Yu Mang (1997)

“This Album never claimed to be Punk. Especially that crap punk from the 70s and 80s. It never claimed to be the Sex pistols or the ramones (and if you like them, kill yourself because that bland horrific fecal matter excrement is not music). It never claimed to be Britney Spears! It never claimed to be anything, other than what the musicians intended. Music THEY liked. Their Ska/Punk influences and tastes definitely show here, as people most often misinterpret this venture to BE a Punk album. It is not, it is pop/rock. Sure, the guitars may sound Punk at times as well the drums, but the heart here is either Party, or Post-Teen Angst.”

1. Astro Lounge (1999)

“A fantastic album, in fact I think that this Smash Mouth Album is way WAY better then their debut album called “Fush Yu Mang”, in which the only real song on that album I enjoyed was “Walking On The Sun” This album I can safely recommend to even a non Smash Mouth band fan it is so good, This is a huge album and it is as if Smash Mouth was purposely making this album more enjoyable then the first album that they made together as a group.”
