SP’s turn heartbreak into furious alt-punk on new single ‘Ripper’
LA outfit SP’s channel the wreckage of a relationship into something thrillingly immediate on ‘Ripper’, the latest preview of their forthcoming debut album Dating at the End of the World.
Born from vocalist Steve Albertson’s breakup, the track catches the band at their most exposed while simultaneously pushing their scrappy garage-punk into more melodic territory. Guitarist Steve LaBate draws from The Strokes, Minutemen and Tom Petty, building the song around a sharp, jangling hook as bass and drums provide a relentless forward charge.
A new video directed by Holly Parker captures SP’s across rehearsal rooms, recording sessions, live performances and the streets of Los Angeles, bringing some levity to the song’s heavier foundations.
‘Ripper’ leads towards Dating at the End of the World, arriving March 26th, 2027 via Baby Robot Records, where SP’s will further collide bruising punk energy with heartbreak, modern relationships and social frustration.
