Supernatural Songs Ranked
Supernatural is the eighteenth studio album by Latin rock band Santana, released on June 15, 1999, on Arista Records. After Santana found themselves without a label in the mid-1990s, founding member and guitarist Carlos Santana began talks with Arista president Clive Davis. Davis had originally signed the group to Columbia Records in 1969 when he was president of that label. Santana and Davis collaborated with A&R man Pete Ganbarg, as Santana wanted to focus on pop and radio-friendly material; Santana collaborated with contemporary guest artists including Eric Clapton, Rob Thomas, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, Maná, KC Porter and CeeLo Green. At the 2000 Grammy Awards, Supernatural won nine Grammy Awards, breaking the record held by Thriller for the most honored album. These included Album of the Year, making Carlos the first Hispanic to win it, and Best Rock Album. Santana won eight of these, tying Michael Jackson’s record for the most awards in one night. Santana also won three Latin Grammy Awards including Record of the Year. Here are all of Supernatural songs ranked.

10. The Calling
“A mostly instrumental duet by Eric Clapton and Santana. By far the longest song on the album, but you don’t get bored listening to it. The melody changes a lot, and sometimes there are a few words. Clapton and Santana are great together.”
9. El farol
“An intrumental song that was also on the “Smooth” single. This song reminds me of two guitars, an electric and an acoustic, talking to each other. It is soothing and good to fall asleep to, but that’s not a bad thing.”
8. Corazón espinado
“This song, also in Spanish as you can see from the title, features Latin band Mana and is another one of my favorites. I understand a lot of the lyrics, too. It has a twitchy latin beat that reminds me of Marc Anthony’s “I need to know” but is a much better song. Also features some great timbali drumming.”

7. Maria Maria
“The other big radio hit, featuring The Product G&C (something like that) singing, and Wyclef Jean doing some rap in the background. This one has a cool bass line.”
6. Migra
“One of my personal favorites. The lyrics (Santana sings them) are mostly in Spanish, and besides his awesome guitar there is some great drumming, great horns, and even some synthesized bagpipes. Really energetic.”
5. Do You Like the Way?
“This unusual rap-with-guitar song features Lauryn Hill rapping and Cee-Lo singing. It may seem like Santana + rap would equal a mess, but it definitely works. Good message, too.”

4. Smooth
“Carlos and Rob’s big hit, which you’ve no doubt heard countless times on the radio. This makes me a bit sick of it, but it has great, driven guitar and Rob Thomas’s vocals, which sound even better paired with the Santana band than with Matchbox 20.”
3. Put Your Lights On
“This alternative song features Everlast and some great guitar by Santana (of course). Somehow angry and inspiring at the same time, but not hardcore or anything.”
2. Love of My Life
“This song features Dave Matthews, and it is surprising how well his voice goes with Santana’s guitar. The title sounds like it would be a “mushy” ballad, but it’s not.”
1. Wishing It Was
“This song features Eagle Eye Cherry and, although at first I didn’t like it quite as much as the other songs, now I like it a lot. The lyrics are strangely relate-able.”
