Survivor Albums Ranked

Survivor is an American rock band, formed in Chicago in 1978 around Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. The band achieved its greatest success in the 1980s, producing many charting singles, especially in the United States. The band is best known for its double-platinum-certified 1982 hit “Eye of the Tiger”, the theme song for the 1982 motion picture Rocky III (US number 1 for six weeks). The band continued to chart in the mid-1980s with singles like “Burning Heart” (the US number 2), “The Search Is Over” (the US number 4), “High on You” (the US number 8), “Is This Love” (US number 9), and “I Can’t Hold Back” (US number 13). Singer Jimi Jamison later toured as “Survivor” in the mid-1990s without the permission of the rest of the band, but reunited with guitarist Frankie Sullivan in 2000. The band then released Reach in 2006, but Jamison left again after its release and was replaced by singer Robin McAuley. Survivor continued to tour with McAuley into 2011 until Jamison returned later that year. On September 1, 2014 Jamison died in his home in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 63 of a hemorrhagic brain stroke, with “acute methamphetamine intoxication contributing”. 8. Greatest Hits (1990)

“This album includes all of those huge hits, and it also contains songs that a casual fan like myself may not be aware of. “Hungry Years” and “Somewhere In America” are new to me, and I’ve come to really enjoy them.I recommend this album to anyone who likes that old 80’s melodic/slightly hard rock. These guys ruled the 80’s for a reason, a really good sounding one.”

7. Survivor (1980)

“All that I can say is- it’s great to see the entire SURVIVOR catalog finally out on c.d.!! Don’t be afraid of this debut, because it contains some really good songs throughout.Although not quite as “polished” a sound as later more familiar albums-we’re still talking about the songwriting talents of JIM PETERIK/FRANKIE SULLIVAN w/ the vocals of DAVE BICKLER here! give it a shot-I think you’ll enjoy this one!”

6. Premonition (1981)

“”Premonition” is a focused and tight record that captures the burgeoning musical essence of a band on the rise. Dazzling guitar work by Frankie Sullivan, magnetic vocal and instrumental melodies, a hard-charging rhythm section and honest singing by Dave Bickler were all pieces of the early Survivor make-up. Bickler’s nostalgic singing on the beautiful “Summer Nights” sounds like vintage Journey, but it’s the urgent-sounding, rise-from-the-ashes lyrics and vibe on outstanding tunes like “Poor Man’s Son” and “Runaway Lights” where Survivor truly stamps out its own name, blazing a path to that famous tiger song later on”

5. Too Hot To Sleep (1988)

“Though not as poppy or commercially successful as the two albums before it TOO HOT TO SLEEP is a very good cd desperate dreams is a mid tempo song with some awesome lyrics .though most of the songs are upbeat across the miles is more like a ballad really nice guitar work and some truly memorable harmonies. If you are a SURVIVOR fan this is a must for your collection.”

4. When Seconds Count (1986)

“Music-wise “When seconds count” was the ideal continuation of the preceding album “Vital Signs”, further exploring their keyboard/vocal driven sound, delivering immense harmonies (in both instrumental and vocal departments). “When seconds count” features such highlights as “Rebel Son”, the predictable but undeniably melodic “Is this love” and the majestic “Oceans”. One finds that in terms of both songwriting and performance, “Survivor” chose to challenge themselves by adding various musical twists and turns within the arrangements (whether that is an improvisation, a momentary alteration in tempo or a pause) making the end result all the more interesting and memorable.”

3. Caught In The Game (1983)

“This album is the last to feature powerhouse singer dave bickler, the songs are almost an extension of eye of the tiger, very soulful and very classic survivor, and the last set of songs that were written from the guitar, what i like best about this album is the mood swings from ballard to punchy rock, (something survivor almost abandoned on their next two albums) but here is a band that capture raw emotion and keep hitting out tune after tune a must for any collection!!”

2. Eye Of The Tiger (1982)

“This album is a must have for everyone who remember the late 70’s and early 80’s. Most people knows only the song “Eye Of The Tiger” but it includes other really good songs too. For myself, I have followed Survivor all years after this album, but unfortunately they splitted the band after they’r reunion, “Reach” in 2006. I will also recommend the solo-albums from the lead singer, Jimi Jamison. He is the one who bring the sound of Survivor further ahead until this day, and Jim Peterik’s Lifeforce, who is a bit more jazzy, but still great.”

1. Vital Signs (1984)

” I love every song on it. “I See You in Everyone” is my favorite Survivor song and “Broken Promises” is my second favorite. In my opinion, if you can only buy one album, this is it. If you’ve never heard their music, this is the one to start. Jimi Jamison is one of the greatest vocalist ever! (Such a loss.)”
