T.R. Burge & The Temple announce debut album with ‘This Bird Is Flown’
Manchester outfit T.R. Burge & The Temple introduce their forthcoming debut album Godache with the atmospheric new single ‘This Bird Is Flown’.
The track began with a vivid dream experienced by Burge, centred around a woman staring towards the ocean and seemingly grieving someone who had disappeared from her life. From there, the songwriter expanded the scene through increasingly abstract imagery, partly informed by his exploration of esoteric writing.
Recorded at Klangbild Studios in Berlin with longtime collaborator Martin J. Fiedler, ‘This Bird Is Flown’ deliberately moves through contrasting passages rather than settling into a conventional structure. Aninka Rosa’s violin is particularly important, shifting between restraint and dramatic flourishes as the arrangement continually changes shape.
The single opens the door to Godache, arriving November 6 after three years in development. Created between Manchester and Berlin, the record draws heavily upon experiences of loss while connecting Southern Gothic storytelling and early blues with influences including Mark Lanegan, Townes Van Zandt and Elliott Smith.
