The Black Drumset finds light in the darkness on new single ‘Friends In Dark Places’

Ahead of the release of its forthcoming album of the same name on July 17, The Black Drumset has unveiled new single ‘Friends In Dark Places’, a deeply personal track that marks a new chapter for the long-running project of multi-instrumentalist Brian Willey.

Written during Willey’s time in Tucson, Arizona, amid the uncertainty and isolation of the pandemic years, the song emerged after a prolonged period of creative silence. Beginning in introspection and uncertainty before gradually moving toward optimism, the track explores the unexpected comfort, resilience and connection that can emerge during difficult times.

The accompanying video mirrors that sense of movement and reflection, constructed entirely from footage captured through the window of a Paris subway train and edited without visual effects or digital manipulation.

With the album arriving later this month, ‘Friends In Dark Places’ offers an evocative first glimpse into what may be The Black Drumset’s most personal and emotionally resonant work to date.
