The Bluegrass Album Songs Ranked
The Bluegrass Album is the nineteenth studio album and the first bluegrass album by American country music artist Alan Jackson. It was released on September 24, 2013 via Alan’s Country Records and EMI Nashville.[2][3] Jackson wrote eight songs for the album.[4][5] It also includes covers of The Dillards’ “There Is a Time”, John Anderson’s “Wild and Blue” and Bill Monroe’s “Blue Moon of Kentucky”.[6] Also included is a re-recording of “Let’s Get Back to Me and You” from his 1994 album Who I Am, marking the second time Jackson has included two versions of the same song on two different albums (“A Woman’s Love” was originally recorded for High Mileage and was later re-recorded for Like Red on a Rose). Here are all of The Bluegrass Album songs ranked.

8. Blue Moon of Kentucky
“This is an excellent album, just like all of AJ’s albums are. It’s a very country album to me with a touch of bluegrass to the music, but I’ve heard other BG albums by other BG groups that had a much bolder BG sound to their music.”
7. Knew All Along
“Alan is a fantastic musician/singer and for me, one of the last of the artists to carry the true country sound. Some of these new people doing what they call country just aren’t holding on to country music’s roots, but then again, the new country audience doesn’t seem to care.”

6. Let’s Get Back to Me and You
“I have been an Alan fan forever and have nearly all his albums. I am not really a bluegrass fan and almost passed on this one. Boy, am I glad I didn’t. Yes, he may not have the “high lonesome sound” of Bill Monroe or Jimmy Martin or Vince Gill, but his voice carries the story.”
5. There Is a Time
“The band is tremendous as others have noted, and they get plenty of time to show their skills. The fact that he wrote most of the songs shows another side of Alan. Some of them seem like they could be old handed-down story songs.”

4. Blue Ridge Mountain Song
“Not the greatest of his albums but enjoyable nonetheless. Being a Jackson fan, I had to have it. It’s a slightly different side of him. Not as heavily Bluegrass and other works of the genre. More a blend of Bluegrass and country.”
3. Appalachian Mountain Girl
“If you like Alan Jackson and you like his style of country, then I think you will really enjoy this album! Mr. Jackson brings his voice and considerable talents to the table in his first bluegrass album. He not only sings some of the bluegrass standards, he wrote a lot of the songs on this album himself.”
2. Mary
“A wonderful work of art by Alan Jackson. Alan gathered the greatest in the bluegrass field to accompany him on his lifelong dream to have a bluegrass album. As always, Alan does everything on his albums with great music and also…enjoyable music.”
1. Long Hard Road
“Great addition to my collection of Alan Jackson music. Usually a traditional country artist, this venture into bluegrass finds him comfortable in this format. The music has a great beat, good accompaniment for walking.”
