The Libertines Albums Ranked

The Libertines are an English rock band, formed in London in 1997 by frontmen Carl Barât (vocals/guitar) and Pete Doherty (vocals/guitar). The band centered on the songwriting partnership of Barât and Doherty has also included John Hassall (bass) and Gary Powell (drums) for most of its recording career. The band was part of the garage rock revival and spearheaded the movement in the UK. In August 2010, the four members of the Libertines reunited to play a series of shows, including slots at the 2010 Reading and Leeds Festivals. The reunion shows received a highly positive response from the press and fans. In April 2014 the Libertines announced they would again reform for a show at London’s Hyde Park. In November 2014 the band signed a record deal with Virgin EMI Records and released their third album, Anthems for Doomed Youth on 11 September 2015. Here are all of The Libertines albums ranked.

4. Time For Heroes: The Best Of The Libertines (2007)

“This is not an album from the Libertines it is a compilation of many songs. It has some of the libertines single hits on it which is what I would recommend you get it for. If you are planning to get one or two or all of the libertines albums then this is great one to start with. It gives you all the hits from the early days.”

3. Anthems For Doomed Youth (2015)

“The Libertines are my favorite band of all time and I have waited a long time for them to release new material, I have not been disappointed. Fair enough, Anthems For Doomed Youth, may not have the strongest of singles to lead the album. However, I believe it’s the lib’s finest effort, unlike their other two albums, every song is brilliant. Although it’s been a long wait, it’s been well worth it. The rhythm and bass from Hassall and Powell complement the emotional songwriting of Barat and Doherty perfectly. One of the best albums of the decade thus far and one of my new favorites.”

2. The Libertines (2004)

“This album should be higher on the list. Granted, there are some weaker songs like “Don’t Be Shy”, “Tomblands”, “The Saga” and “Road to Ruin” but the rest of the album hits hard. The album has an incredibly strong opening and a very strong first half. The second half may be weaker, but it’s certainly not bad.”

1. Up The Bracket (2002)

“The songs are punchy and to the point, while feeling a little rough around the edges at times too (which is not necessarily a bad thing). The first half is definitely the strongest part of the album. With catchy choruses and guitar riffs, ‘Death On The Stairs’, ‘Horror Show’, and ‘Time For Heroes’ are the stand-out tracks for me. All three songs occur back-to-back near the start, so this album really hits the ground running.”
