The Outfield Albums Ranked

The Outfield was an English rock band based in London, England. The band achieved success in the mid-1980s and are best remembered for their hit single, “Your Love”. The band’s lineup consisted of guitarist John Spinks, vocalist and bassist Tony Lewis, and drummer Alan Jackman. Drummer Alan Jackman left and, now as a duo, they recorded Diamond Days in 1991. After the disappointing response to their 1992 album Rockeye, which represented a shift towards progressive rock and arena rock, the group essentially disbanded in the 1990s. They resumed touring in 1998, and thereafter released two live albums via their website, along with a new studio album, Any Time Now in 2004, which was later re-released in 2006. In 2011, the band released their final album, Replay, with original drummer Alan Jackman re-joining the band. Spinks died in 2014 after which the group officially disbanded. On 22 March 2018, lead singer/bassist Tony Lewis announced a solo album called Out of the Darkness, which was released on 29 June 2018 through Madison Records. Here are all of The Outfield albums ranked.

4. Voices Of Babylon (1989)

“Like all their other fans, I can’t believe that this band wasn’t more popular than they were. They’re quite possibly the best pop-rock band around… or they were.  Play Deep is the essence of the Outfield sound. Power pop at its best with the emphasis on power.”

3. Big Innings: The Best Of The Outfield (1996)

“Very complete collection of songs from a nearly forgotten, but unforgettable band. This CD include 3 unreleased tracks, 2 movie soundtrack song, and all 8 of their Billboard charing songs including Voices Of Babylon, For You, Your Love, Since You’ve Been Gone, and All The Love In tHe World (listed on this Cd as just All The Love). As with most greatest hits collection there is always one or two songs the should have been included (Bangin’ On My Heart and No Surrender). But in all a great CD from a great “feel good” band.”

2. Bangin’ (1986)

“My favourite songs on this CD are, “No Surrender” (hence the title of my review), “Long Way Home” and of course the famous classic single from this album, “Since You’ve Been Gone”. Having taken the challenge to tackle their multi-platinum bestseller deput “Play Deep”, one is relieved that there is, “No Surrender” with this magnificent band!”

1. Play Deep (1985)

“It certainly was their most popular fielding their only top 10 hit, “Your Love”. But in my opinion, “Voices of Babylon” is slightly better and “Bangin'” is equally as good. Am I saying don’t get this album? Absolutely not. This is one of their best containing great tracks like “Say It Isn’t So”, “Every Time Your Cry”, “All the Love” and of course, “Your Love”. This is a great album. I’m suggesting that you get their first three albums along with “Rockeye”. Trust me, you won’t be sorry.”
