The Sickly Spins lead Hamilton’s punk charge with ‘Psychic Vampire’

Hamilton, Ontario trio The Sickly Spins are making an immediate impression with ‘Psychic Vampire’, the lead single from forthcoming compilation The Sound Of Hamilton Indie Vol. 2 – Explosive Materials.

Out now, the track debuted at #9 on Hypeddit’s Top 100 Punk Songs chart and remained inside the Top 15 for more than a week, providing an encouraging early response ahead of the compilation’s release.

‘Psychic Vampire’ was selected as the project’s flagship track from 145 submissions by 75 Hamilton-area acts, placing The Sickly Spins at the forefront of a collection designed to document the heavier side of Southern Ontario’s independent scene.

That feels particularly appropriate given Hamilton’s long relationship with loud guitar music. Following a lineage that includes Teenage Head, Monster Truck and The Dirty Nil, the three-piece favour a direct, energetic punk sound that attempts to preserve the intensity of their club performances on record.

Explosive Materials will arrive globally across streaming platforms alongside physical 12-inch vinyl and CD editions, presenting ‘Psychic Vampire’ as its opening statement and a timely snapshot of Hamilton’s continuing underground punk culture.
