The Summerlands reflect on displacement and change on new single ‘Sellwood Bridge Blues’

Portland indie-punk outfit The Summerlands tap into the emotional fallout of gentrification, environmental collapse and fading hometown identity on their new single ‘Sellwood Bridge Blues’, taken from debut album Bonfante Gardens Forever.

Driven by anthemic guitars and emotionally charged momentum, the track captures the tension at the centre of the band’s wider project: the feeling of watching familiar places slowly transform into something unrecognisable. Blending indie-rock, punk and heartland-inspired hooks, ‘Sellwood Bridge Blues’ balances raw immediacy with a deep sense of nostalgia and frustration.

Musically, the track channels flashes of Titus Andronicus and early Modest Mouse, combining ragged indie-punk urgency with melodic expansiveness. There’s anger beneath the surface, but also a lingering sense of grief for places and communities gradually slipping away.

As part of Bonfante Gardens Forever, ‘Sellwood Bridge Blues’ stands as both a personal reckoning and a broader portrait of a generation struggling to hold onto home in a rapidly changing world.
