Trauma Party target political disinformation on ‘Roll Up (It’s the New Truth)’
New Zealand garage and post-punk outfit Trauma Party have shared the video for ‘Roll Up (It’s the New Truth)’, completing a four-video series accompanying their debut EP Because You’ve Been Good.
Based on Waiheke Island, the band use the EP’s heaviest track to address political misinformation, populist rhetoric and what they see as the growing normalisation of “alternative facts”. Rolling drums and abrasive guitars provide an increasingly tense backdrop, with the song framing contemporary politics as a surreal travelling circus.
‘Roll Up (It’s the New Truth)’ also provides an indication of where Trauma Party are heading next. The group say the heavier approach developed further during work on their forthcoming album and has already become part of their live performances around Aotearoa.
With the complete Because You’ve Been Good video series now released, Trauma Party close their debut EP chapter with one of its most overtly political statements.
