5. Four Words To Stand On (2008)

“One of the best songs the band has. You can feel some kind of nostalgia with this album. There’s some sense of amateurism that will definitely make you feel like these are some good lads playing in their garage, but nicely done.”

4. False Alarm (2019)

“False Alarm is the left-turn I didn’t think they could ever make: it’s colorful, fun, and energetic. It owes obvious influence to ’80s new wave at it’s most pop (think Talking Heads singles), but it reminds me a lot of Beck’s Midnite Vultures in how it feels so tongue-in-cheek and meta with its influences. Maybe the ridiculous album cover tips the hat a bit too much. There seems to be a lot of bands mining this sound these days but this ranks among the best in recent years, alongside After Laughter. Great to see this band make bright, dumb pop again after taking themselves so seriously. This album is a blast and perfect for the summer!”

3. Gameshow (2016)

“Gameshow” exposes an electronic side of Two Door Cinema Club that they haven’t deeply explored before and although this might be the most “mainstream” they’ve ever sounded, they still manage to create a defining addition to their catalog. The title track “Gameshow” has Trimble almost yelling in the chorus, surrounded by a driving bass line that is consistent throughout the record over whining heavily distorted guitar riffs. The song talks about the pressures of being in the music industry, which takes them lyrically to a new level.”

2. Beacon (2012)

“Beacon is eminently enjoyable, solidly upbeat throughout, maybe a bit airier than their last (especially towards the end of the album). It is also more musical; there is greater emphasis on musicianship / instruments, and the vocals are somehow less prominent, complimenting and meshing with the music rather than stealing the show as the centerpiece.”

1. Tourist History (2010)

“‘Tourist History’ did not disappoint. So many of the songs were immediately memorable and catchy, and I liked the somewhat nerdy school boy look of the band. Track after track will have you tapping your feet or help you wake up in the morning: ‘Undercover Martyn’, ‘Something Good Can Work’, ‘Eat That Up, It’s Good For You’, etc. But it doesn’t stop with just the tracks on this album. If you are able to get your hands on the additional tracks from this period: ‘Kids’ and ‘Costume Party’, then you will get two of the bands best songs. I play something off this album nearly every day.”
