What I Do Songs Ranked
What I Do is the twelfth studio album by American country music artist Alan Jackson. 10. Too Much of a Good Thing
“Too Much Of A Good Thing”, Alan’s current hit, is about a guy who can’t get enough of the one he loves. It’s rapidly climbing the charts. “Too Much of a Good Thing” is vivacious and ebullient with Jackson convincingly persuading us that we cannot overdose on love.”
9. USA Today
“USA Today,” showcases Jackson’s mettle as a lyricist-a self immolation take on loneliness with a confounded Jackson wishing he would be “on the cover of the USA Today… a picture of the loneliest man they claim in the USA today.”
8. If French Fries Were Fat Free
“More lighthearted and witty, though still treading in the mire of loneliness is “If French Fries Were Fat Free.” Here Jackson puts into song what all of us fantasize but dare not admit, “If French fries were fat free and you still loved me, what a wonderful world it would be.”

7. There Ya Go
“Keith Stegall and Dan Hill’s “There Ya Go” finds a philosophical Jackson sitting comfortably in Dear Abby’s chair dispelling his antidote for despair: “There ya go, you’re doing fine; take each day like a step, one at a time.”
6. Strong Enough
“Strong Enough” is a sweet song with a fun lyrical flow, and should be on the radio. As usual, and as expected, Alan Jackson has done it again!! With his traditional country gentleman style to his “pokin’ fun at life”, Alan comes through again!”
5. Burnin’ the Honky Tonks Down
“The toe-tapping “Burnin’ The Honky Tonks Down” is about a woman who gets even with her husband for going out to the bars by following him to the bars and torching them.”

4. To Do What I Do
“The closing number “To Do What I Do”, which was recorded live, could very well be Alan’s celebration of his career. As he sings, I think it’s obvious that Alan is enjoying himself: “There’s so much joy this music can bring/So I count my blessings when I step up to sing/’Cause there’s so many people that would give anything/To do what I do.””
3. Monday Morning Church
“Penned by Brent Baxter and Erin Enderlin, “Monday Morning Church” tells the tragic tale of a man losing his faith in the wake of a personal tragedy. Adding her mountain rich lonesome harmony, country music’s chanteuse Patty Loveless further accentuates the sentiments of the song.”
2. The Talkin’ Song Repair Blues
“In “Talkin’ Song Repair Blues”, the guy takes his car to the garage to get it fixed. After the mechanic gives the car owner the estimate of how much the job will cost, they get to talking and realize they’re both songwriters.”
1. You Don’t Have to Paint Me a Picture
“The plain-spoken everyday-ness of Jackson’s work connects to his audience’s lives in deeply personal ways — as if each new album is a part of an on-going conversation. It’s quite a feat to have such a one-on-one with millions at a time, but Jackson makes it seem as easy as the discourse itself.”
