Ace of Base Albums Ranked

Ace of Base is a Swedish pop group, originally consisting of siblings Jonas Berggren, Linn Berggren, and Jenny Berggren, with Ulf Ekberg starting in 1990. Despite being largely inactive since 2012, the group has never officially disbanded. In recent years, they have released a number of demo tracks; first via their Facebook page, then in 2015 on the compilation album Hidden Gems. An expanded 2-disc edition was included in the 2020 boxset All That She Wants: The Classic Collection. Jenny Berggren continues to perform the group’s hits in solo concerts worldwide. They continued to score hit singles throughout the 1990s, with songs such as “Beautiful Life”, “Lucky Love”, “Cruel Summer” and “Life Is a Flower”. By 2002, they had sold a total of 30 million copies of their first four studio albums, making them the third most successful Swedish group of all time, after ABBA and Roxette. 7. The Golden Ratio (2010)

“This record is certainly on par with the previous Ace of Base albums. Those who are calling it weak would be singing a different tune if Jenny and Linn were still in the band. Each song is exceptional and sounds unique in it’s own way, however I will say that it maybe leads the album to feel a bit disjointed at times. It’s an eclectic mix of sounds though.”

6. Singles Of The 90s (1999)

“Singles of The 90s delivers original and remixed versions of the songs that made Ace of Base the world-wide popular group they are. Included are some new songs such as, Love In December and Hallo and Hallo which promises us that Ace of Base can and will continue to make great music for the world to enjoy, for decades to come.”

5. Da Capo (2002)

“The album title “da capo” is the musical term for “return to the beginning” and you will find, as I have, that Ace of Base has returned to what they do well – up beat, fun and danceable songs. In a lot of ways, you might think this is “The Sign” remade.”

4. Happy Nation (1992)

“This album is tight , it attracts all walks of life no matter who you are , it unites cultures, i like their reggae and hip-hop melodies mixed together, and the electronic beats, not just the hits songs are good i mean the entire album is tight.”

3. Flowers (1998)

“This is an extremely catchy album and was a fabulous follow-up to their debut, which for me is even better! I remember buying the ‘Happy Nation’ tape at the time and being a bit p’*d off with the repeated tracks. (totally unnecessary) At least there’s only one ‘duplicate’ here – and we could have done without that one…”

2. The Bridge (1995)

“This album was an impeccable follow up to an album as buoyant as “The Sign”, and tends to be a tie with that one, as my favourite Ace of Base album. Every song is special, and despite containing many ballads, it all holds together very well and retains a sense of beautiful melody, regardless of tempo or style. Plus, this time, the lead singers, Linn and Jenny, get to add some of their very own songs.”

1. The Sign (1993)

“This CD is a monster success and engaging listen from beginning to end. I just previewed the whole disc as preparation for this review and there is not a single bad song to be found here, with several attaining absolute classic status. “All That She Wants,” the group’s aforementioned breakthrough single, is as catchy and vibrant as they come and is still a standard on FM radio to this day. “Living in Danger” captivates the listener with its danceable melodies and chorus. My favorite song of them all, though, is track number seven “Wheel of Fortune.”
