7. Essential

“This is the most complete collection of Alison Krauss. A must for bluegrass fans but also a great variety of music for the third most awarded person by the Grammys (Number one for women). It can also be appreciated for listeners of adult contemporary, country, and gospel.”

6. Too Late To Cry

“What a wonderful way to start a singing career, which just got better and better. This album gives the listener a chance to hear a rare talent emerge and almost instantly blossom. The songs are tuneful and catchy. For me, it was bought well after totally enjoying the later albums of AK and AKUS. I couldn’t help but think that she was simply not old enough to be sitting at the bar we see on the album cover! I guess they were making a valid point about her musical maturity.”

5. Windy City

“It goes without saying that Alison Krauss has a wonderfully distinctive voice. Her singing style is perfectly suited to these tunes. One of the qualities that I value in Alison’s presentation is that she never loses the note. She is on perfect pitch from beginning to end! Listen carefully to other vocalists and the special nature of this quality will hit home. Alison’s voice just flows with the accompanying instrumentals which are quite wonderful and tasteful.”

4. Now That I’ve Found You: A Collection

“Alison’s voice has a uniquely sweet and pure quality not commonly expected in country music. This combined with structured vocal harmony was the key to her versatility across different musical contexts, even though she is not a great technical blues singer.

3. I’ve Got That Old Feeling

“One of the most consistently great albums I can think of. I found I starred every song on Spotify except for “Will You Be Leaving” and “Longest Highway,” and those are by no mean bad songs! One of the greatest bluegrass albums by one of the greatest bluegrass voices and backing bands.”

2. Forget About It

“A solo album from Alison Krauss, with the Union Station and bluegrass sounds taking a backseat. With nearly all of the songs being slow ballads played in a country pop style, it gets a bit boring towards the end. The album would certainly have benefited from some up tempo bluegrass. Still, what’s on the album is actually quite good.”

1. A Hundred Miles Or More: A Collection

“A pleasant surprise this compilation. Several previously unreleased songs, which would have fit on any regular Alison Krauss CD. Also songs that were on CDs of other artists. Most of these I didn’t know. The two John Waite duets are the worst on this CD, but that shouldn’t spoil the fun. An asset to the collection.”
