10. New Favorite (New Favorite, 2001)

“The song, “New Favorite,” is more of a folk-pop tune than a country song. It’s been used in countless mixtapes, videos, etc. When you hear it, you’re likely to recognize it even if you haven’t heard the album before. It’s a beautiful, affecting song, and felt quite innovative in its day.”

9. Every Time You Say Goodbye (Every Time You Say Goodbye, 1992)

“”There’s a restless feeling knocking at my door today…there’s a shadow hanging round my garden gate”. I feel there is something supernatural about this heartache that hides behind the ebullient mandolin and melody. It’s like she’s singing to the spirit of the boy that went away. He sometimes comes to visit at the garden gate. A tale of love, but also a haunting ghost story.”

8. Stay (Forget About It, 1999)

“This woman is incredible, such an amazing talent and beautiful voice and she sounds the same rather its studio or live and that’s even more incredible. If angles sing they sound like Alison Krauss.”

7. Ghost In This House (Forget About It, 1999)

“Allison Krauss has the most pure, effortless voice I think I’ve ever heard. Watching her sing is a joy because you simply can’t believe the voice that comes forth. She will forever be one of my favorite singers. Ghost in this House is a song that I’m sure many, many people can relate to.”

6. The Lucky One (New Favorite, 2001)

“This song is about the sadness, or perhaps jealousy, that a conservative person may feel by observing a ‘free spirit’. Also, it’s about the person knowing the free spirit will never be in their life very long because of his restlessness.”

5. Let Me Touch You For Awhile (New Favorite, 2001)

“What’s not to like? One of the most talented Bluegrass groups ever. Everyone of them are the best. The music is outstanding. No regrets ever listening to them .”

4. Baby, Now That I’ve Found You (Now That I’ve Found You: A Collection, 1995)

“Her voice is so pure and sweet that it is very easy to listen to her for long periods of time. I was able to see her in person last summer, and her performance and relation to her audience was outstanding.”

3. Down to the River to Pray (O Brother, Where Art Thou?, 2000)

“This is a very old song with so much meaning It bring to mind they days when we baptized is a near by fresh body of water in pure white gowns. When people filled with the Holy Spirit come up from the water jumping and shouting for joy! The lyrics are very easy to learn and sung without music.”

2. Whiskey Lullaby (Mud on the Tires, 2003)

“Well anyway, this actually stands out a bit compared to other ballads, in that the music is actually memorable despite being very simple… it isn’t entirely lyric-driven and there is actually a backbone to the track that adds to the somber feel. The lyrics are interesting and fairly well-written. One of the few modern country songs that I’ve kept in my library.”

1. When You Say Nothing At All (Happy Thanksgiving Day, 2020)

“I remember the first time I heard her sing this song by Keith Whitley. She was already a Bluegrass Queen & when she crossed over into mainstream Country, she did it so smoothly. Her one of a kind voice really is spectacular & it is a great cover of a great country song. This was back in the early 90’s & she has put a firm mark in country music as well as other music styles when she collaborates with other legendary artist. She is incredible! So talented, beautiful & humble. So incredible!”
