Ana Schurmann turns ‘Peacemakers’ into a luminous call for unity
Ana Schurmann approaches music as part of a much wider creative language. Science, fashion, design and social responsibility all sit within the same orbit of her work, but on ‘Peacemakers’, those larger ambitions are distilled into a hopeful, cinematic song built around the idea that compassion still matters.
The single arrives with an unusually broad context. Her recent work has explored the relationship between astrophysics and composition, including the translation of gravitational-wave data into musical structures, while her background in fashion has evolved into experimental design and wearable instrumentation. Yet ‘Peacemakers’ doesn’t feel weighed down by those concepts. Instead, it uses them as part of a wider philosophy in which creativity becomes a means of connection.
That is reflected in the track’s construction. Entirely self-produced, ‘Peacemakers’ brings together ten instruments, including piano, guitars, percussion, flutes and Schurmann’s own Neck Lyre. The latter is particularly distinctive, functioning as both jewellery and playable instrument, but its presence isn’t treated as novelty. It becomes one colour within a broader arrangement that favours warmth, lift and gradual expansion.
There’s also an undeniably cinematic quality to ‘Peacemakers’, but it’s not cinematic in the sense of empty grandeur. The scale comes from individual instruments joining one another, melodic lines widening and the emotional tone moving steadily towards hope.
That balance is important because the song also carries a humanitarian purpose. She has connected the release with support for children and vulnerable communities through Lar Recanto do Carinho, placing social action alongside its artistic message.
Ana Schurmann’s multidisciplinary background could easily have made the release feel over-conceptualised. Instead, ‘Peacemakers’ succeeds because the various strands of her work meet in service of one clear emotional idea. The result is a graceful and ambitious single that treats hope as an active creative choice.
