APRIL Songs Ranked

April (Korean: 에이프릴) was a South Korean girl group formed by DSP Media. The group debuted on August 24, 2015, with their EP Dreaming and its title track “Dream Candy”. The groups final lineup was composed of six members: Chaekyung, Chaewon, Naeun, Yena, Rachel and Jinsol. The group officially disbanded on January 28, 2022. The group name is made up of ‘A’ and ‘pril’. ‘A’ means ‘the best girl group’ and ‘pril’ means lovely girls. As combined, ‘April’ makes the meaning of ‘the best, lovely girls’. Also known as ‘Sa-wori’ (사월이, April), ‘Apple’ (에플, pun of April) or ‘Pril-e’ (프릴이, pun of pril). After their debut, fans started calling them ‘Chung-jeong-dol’ (청정돌, pure idol). Here are all of APRIL’s songs ranked.

10. Tinkerbell (Spring, 2016)

“t’s a fun and welcoming addition to the k-pop summer style. The industry this year seem to finally be catching up to the summer vibe. The chorus reminds me of a sung Bingle Bangle’s, probably just because of the intoniation at which they sing the title phrase”

9. The Blue Bird (The Blue, 2018)

“Right out of the gate, Bird‘s gorgeous strings loop guarantees that we’re in safe hands. It’s a simple little hook, but manages to be instantly endearing when coupled with the potent shuffle of the instrumental supporting it. “

8. Take My Hand (Eternity, 2017)

“One thing Take My Hand gets absolutely right is the instrumental. The propulsive, synth-powered beat employs the kind of relentless drive that has been missing from so many girl group releases these past few months.”

7. Snowman (Prelude, 2017)

Snowman continues the cute, but doesn’t have the same bubblegum pop energy. Like winter itself, it’s a little more subdued. I’m not sure it’s what they need right now and will likely float by as a pretty uneventful blip in their discography. That said, the song is still very pleasant, especially the “oh wah oh wah oh wah” refrain that buffers the chorus.”

6. Oh! My Mistake (The Ruby, 2018)

“I just recently found out about this song, and I can’t stop listening to it. It’s so good! And the simplicity of the MV, their awesome outfits and the theme of the video, are all perfect. Their vocals are really solid as well. Love Naeun’s voice a lot.”

5. Mayday (Mayday, 2017)

“I come back to this song every once in a while, or more specifically to the video, for it’s eye-catching retro styling. It’s wild that they would save the catchiest part of the song, the “na na na’s” for the very end!”

4. LALALILALA (Da Capo, 2020)

“All tea, all shade, this is miles better than Apink’s latest offering. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Dumhdurum but LALALILALA has such a fantastic chorus and the hook is incredibly catchy. Like other people have said, I get a Pandora vibe from it, even more so when I watch the video!

3. Doll (Da Capo, 2020)

“The song is also a great partner to the album’s other e.one-produced track, YOU.zipYOU is slightly more uneven, though its chorus is a total highlight. In contrast, Doll maintains an addictive energy across both its verses and chorus.”

2. As It Is Now (Hello Summer, 2020)

“For this track, the girls have taken cues from GFriend’s high-octane, classically-infused dance pop and melded that approach with their lighter sound. As It Is Now rockets forward on a sprightly synthesized beat before launching into its extended, multi-faceted chorus.”

1. April Story (Prelude, 2017)

“The song’s melody is much more wistful than it is punchy, which makes April Story a track more suited towards specific moods. It may lack the universality of a pop anthem like Rough, but this is clearly a huge leap forward for April as a group.”
