Dolours unleash brooding new single ‘I Am the Dog’
Emerging UK outfit Dolours make a compelling return with ‘I Am the Dog’, a dark and confrontational new single that places the band firmly within the country’s flourishing underground landscape.
Rooted in post-punk but pushed into harsher noise-rock territory, the track combines grinding guitars, forceful bass and a claustrophobic atmosphere that gives Dolours’ DIY sound an immediately distinctive character. There’s an underlying tension throughout, with the band allowing abrasion and unease to become an essential part of the song’s appeal.
Lyrically, ‘I Am the Dog’ examines the unsettling ways another person’s language, expectations and control can begin to alter someone’s perception of themselves. As that influence grows, individuality gradually becomes harder to separate from the identity imposed upon them.
It makes for an intense statement from a band clearly comfortable exploring uncomfortable territory. With frustration, alienation and emotional turmoil feeding directly into their sound, Dolours arrive as an intriguing new presence within the UK’s heavier post-punk underground.
